This is a discussion thread titled "Best Oil Filter", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've done a search but the discussion I remember was well over a year ago and has dropped out of the archives.
There are several good filters for the Tundra but I remember one being specifically cited as "best". I believe it had Gold in the name and was from one of the major suppliers.
Anyone have a clue as to which filter that would be?
It's surely not Napa Gold. They are nearly equivalent to the Wix filter, and both are just slightly better than a Fram...
You may or may not believe me when I tell you that the AMSOIL filter is the best. But ask anyone that has used one and you'll find that they should tell you the oil remained cleaner on the dipstick for a longer period of time. (side note, still waiting for someone to claim that it's just a trick of some sort)
But I'll also tell you that the Mobil1 and Purolator Pure1 are second and third in that order. The most important thing, however, is that the Pure1 filter is equivalent to the Mobil1 in filtering efficiency -- it just doesn't hold as much contaminants. The AMSOIL filter is warranteed for 12,500 miles or 6 months.
Based on contaminant capacity comparison, the Mobil1 should be good for ~10K miles, and the Pure1 for up to ~8K miles. Please note that neither Mobil nor Purolator advocate extended service life (which means if you had a failure they would not back you up), but that isn't my point. My point is that the Mobil1 doesn't filter as well as the AMSOIL, nor last as long in service, yet they are comparably priced (the Mobil1 is actually higher until shipping is added). My point is also that the Pure1 filters as well as the Mobil1 for half the price.
In other words, you can get the same protection with the Pure1 for half the price when draining at frequent intervals...
In case you missed it above, the most cost-effective filter for normal drain intervals is the Purolator Pure1. The best filter for extended drain intervals is the AMSOIL SDF. Let me also be clear that I'm not knocking Mobil because they do make a very good filter -- it's just that so does Purolator, and they sell theirs for $5.99...

By far the Toyota oil filter is the best oil filter for your truck. It’s like the difference between buying TRD and some other brand of exhaust for your truck.

I'm confused. It sounds very much like you're slamming the Wix filters, yet the tech guy at RedLine suggested the Wix filter. Surely he knows which filters are good.
While Amsoil may make a good product, I have never used them. I am tempted to try them because of the warranty.
I do know this little fact. WIX makes the NAPA Gold level filters. I don't believe they have anything to do with the Silver line. I have run WIX or NAPA Gold in my trucks for the past 9 years exclusively. I am using the Toyota filter for my first oil change this week. I am not sure what I will use going forward. JMTC.

That's no secret that Baldwin makes the AMSOIL oil filters. But since you posted it the way you did, you must not know that the Baldwin labeled filters are different than the AMSOIL labeled filters. I'm pretty sure Baldwin makes Hastings too, but once again it is a different grade filter...

Yeah, yeah....differents specs and all that. I'm certainly aware of who the OEM manufacturers are for all oil filters. Personally, I just get tired of religious MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) fanaticism of Amsoil people. OH, OH, buy from me, buy from me! Look at my banner!

It's sad that people like you have to act this way. You don't know me at all, yet you form an opinion and slander me for no reason whatsoever. I think it is completely uncalled for and disrespectful. That is not what this forum is about -- perhaps some of the other forums are just bicker sessions, but not here.
And besides, did you totally miss the fact that I was recommending the Purolator Pure1 filter? Did you even read my posts? I don't sell Purolator products...
I think a switch to decaf might be in order...

I've been running both Amsoil oil filter and syn. oil.....I've clicked off 4000 miles so far on this oil change and the dipstick has a nice honey colored oil.
I plan on going 6000 miles between drains. at roughly $40 per drain with works out to $0.0066 (0.66 cents) per mile or you could spend $20 and go 3000 miles. Hey thats still same per mile spent. Consider that most of us spend 8 - 10 cents mile just on fuel alone, and don't bat an eye at the pump.
High quality oil + High quality filter, thats cheap protection in my book!!!
AS LONG AS the products your putting in have the names, Mobil 1, Pure-one, Amsoil, Redline (the good stuff) your going to get the same peace of mind and protection for your Tundra.
The fact they your thinking about changing your own oil and concerned the brand that going in puts ALL OF US in the top 1% of all car and truck owners.
