Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Squeaky belt?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have noticed a fairly loud squeaking noise coming from the accessory belt on my Tundra. Does anyone else have this problem? My Tundra has 20,000 miles. It only does this on startup and continues for about 1-2 minutes. I've notices it in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm taking it in to the shop probably today or tomorrow. The cup holder is also sticking out a little. Like it won't close all the way. Other than this Tundra runs great. I'm a proud owner
Mine was doing the same especially during the cold weather. Dealer replaced the belt.

I had my belt replaced too, did the same as yours. About the cup holder, look at the arms that swing in when you close it. The arm on the right pops out of the track every now and then. You can't see it if you are looking straight at it you have to look kinda of from the reverse side of it to see. Just put a little pressure on it when you bend it and it will pop back in place. I think it has to do with how hard and quick you pull on it when you open it up.
I have had similar sounds coming from the engine bay...the belts in particualr. I figure it was due to the amount of time spent off-road and in very dusty and/or muddy conditions. I have inspected the belt and pulleys to determine the "chirp-chirp-chirp" sound and found nothing readily visible to be wrong. Every two or three months I'll give the belt a small dose of good old 10W30. Just a few DROPS from the oil can does the trick....well, until I go mudding/dusting/ or the occasional submarine trick (won't be doing that again)

I forgot to say that my tension pulley had to be replaced too. It was out of warranty and cost almost $300 for the belt and pulley {ouch that hurt} 56k on the truck now.
I've noticed the same thing, but it only does it once in a while. Does anyone know if belts and pulleys (being part of the drivetrain, I guess) and covered under the extended warranty? I'm assuming yes, but you never know with Toyota ...they said my brakes were only under warranty until 30k...
They are not covered under the powertrain warranty. I don't know about an "extended warranty" though. Mine would sqeel anytime there was alot of moisture in the air in the a.m. Down in Georgia that is most mornings!

Had dealer change my belt around 21k. Add that to the manifolds, drums, rotors, pads, one pre-cat. Need a climate fan motor and a new rear brake light assembly. Everybody that still has a warranty, use it as much as you can. Hopefully we can get most of the parts we need now and we will feel better about the ones that I know we will have to to replace over and over. I.E, the brakes & possibly manifolds.
FYI...from the back of the service contract, under NOT COVERED:
"Any replacement or costs of any belts or hoses, fluids, filters and shop supplies required in connection with the repair or replacement of a covered component/part."
ie if they replace a pulley and need to replace the belt, you pay for the belt. If it's just the belt, it may be covered since "chains" are listed under the "Covered Components/Parts: Engine Components" section, but it's a long shot. "Belts" is not listed there and hence may be out of your pocket unless it's obviously a defect.

TundraBill,
Sounds like we have the same truck! Everything you are having probs with I am too...even the climate control fan and banging manifolds! My climate control fas was replaced a couple months ago under warranty. Still haven't had any probs with belts...I'll keep my fingers crossed! (I always hesitate saying that I haven't had a problem with xxx or yyy, because it seems like as soon as I say that, I start having the problem )

my belt squealed a few months back and the dealer replaced it under warranty @ 20k miles. i think it was my fault though by getting a little oil on it when doing my oil change.
