Default What is this sleeve in the rear axle housing...

Within the rear axle housing there's a sleeve on each side of the axle tube. What is this used for. The only thing I can think of is that it is used to guide the axle shaft into the carrier. Click on the pic below for a larger pic. Need to know if I need to replace this or leave it out.

I don't remember seeing anything like that in my diff.

From what I've been told, this is to help keep the gear oil in the housing. Instead, of in the axle tubes. Makes sense. Best to keep it in since it's my rig is a partial daily driver.

ricqik - if you are ever in your rear diff again, look inside deeper on either side. You'll notice them.

That was my guess - oil guides. Looks to me like you left one of your Bud cans in there when you installed the locker .

The bud cans were too cheap. I went with the more expensive ghetto rig, Guiness cans.

Its an oil guide. Id reccomend you leave it in.
