Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anyone Here Max Out Their 4.7", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just wondering, does anyone here utilize the power of the 4.7 to the max?
I find that I'm always reving my 4.7 to 5400rpm, I just can't resist.
When the light turns green I love the feeling of of accelerating in the first 2 gears at wide open throttle. I also love the sound at full throttle. When I go to pass someone instead of giving half throttle, I step on it and the tranny shifts down 2 gears without hesitation and the mid range acceleration is phenominal for a full size truck.
My 4.7vvt-i always seems eager to wiiling to rev.
Anyways I hope these engines are made tough because if they're not I will surely find out, hopefully before the warranty runs out.

I rarely max it out. Usually I drive quite sedately at 2000-3000 rpm. Sometimes 3500 rpm. Perhaps a few times a month, I max it out. I dun really drive like I used to 5-10 years ago.

It seems whenever I get on it for 10-15 seconds, I'll get abot 30 miles less for that tank of gas. So we're talkin' $4.50-$5.00 (depending on gas prices).
Yep, it's fun....and costly!

If you want real fun, get the dual Borla. I have it, they are sweet at WOT.
I too love the sound and feel of WOT, but it kinda hurts me inside, like i'm breaking somthing dear to me...I try to drive pretty easy most of the time, but like Himself, I too open it up once or twice a month...they say you should do that now and again to blow out the soot and stuff built up inside. Its unbelievable how smooth this engine is at redline.

Yes - I can attest to the fact that a 4.7 will run a long time at WOT. My last tundra spent a lot of time near redline wide open pulling trailers up long grades. It still ran like a top when I sold it with a ton of miles on it.
I just did my first trip through the mountains towing a trailer with my '05, I spent a lot of time at or near WOT at 4,000+ RPM going up. The transmission worked great in the hills BTW. It automatically locks the torque converter in 3rd and 4th after some period of time holding the gear going up a grade with the selector in D, where with the older ones it would never lock in 2nd, and in 3rd only with the O/D off.

I rarely floor the gas. Only time I do that if I need to pass somebody on the highway that is driving extremly slow (how about 50 MPH in the left lane and blocking anybody from passing) and when I get a chance to pass, I floor it.
On-road... I'm a pretty safe driver... hardly ever go 10 MPH over the speed limit... mainly because it's too damn expensive to drive like an idiot with these gas prices.
Off-road is another story... I let my truck fly! It's not unheard of for me to go through half a tank of gas off-roading. What can I tell you... I just love kicking up rooster tails in the sand. Floored, fishtailing, exhaust wailing, 80 MPH down a dirt road... now that's some fun $hit!

I do not floor it often... I am a Realtor so I drive clients around alot. Once I was behind a slow poke going up a hill an opportunity to pass opened up, I softly accelerated, but the thing droped down two gears. It put me and my clients in the back of the seat.... Oh what a feeling!
BTW TUNDRAV8GEORGIA CA gas prices are $2.56 a gal where I live.
mine gets kinda grumpy if it doesn't redline at least once a day. some people need to be passed and I really don't like hanging out too long in the other lane.

Same with mine. It doesn't like being couped up in traffic very long...
