Loosened up after a couple starts;MPG with the V-6??
Rodchecter, good idea, but it loosened up afte the 1st" sticking. Now that you mention it,I might give the tip a bit of a buffing. The key is no longer stiff once inserted, but initially inserting it isn't as smooth as it could be.Thanks!
I see you are in "Big BR".I was there for 5 years 68-73 at LSU,still remember the radio stations calling it"Big BR".Campus area was like something from another era;gorgeous with the huge old trees, buildings, clock tower, lake etc.I miss it.
Where did you get your Tundra? The dealers here is New Orleans are very difficult to deal with.A buddy of mine said one of the BR dealers is great to deal with.He got a fairly equipped Tacoma, auto, cruise, tilt etc,for about $13,000+TTL without having to kidnap the sales manager's firstborn.
What is your city mileage with the V-6?If I ever trade in the V-8(FOR A TRUE 4 DOOR TUNDRA),I would be tempted to go with the V-6.I get 13.8 MPG in true city driving, about 16.5 in mainly highway driving. Thanks,Charlie
Yes, I'm in Baton Rouge. I got my truck at Coleman Toyota. They gave me the best deal with the least hassle. It was one of the easiest, least painful vehicle purchases I've ever made. I am getting 16.5 - 17.5 normal driving, 20+ on the interstate.
Love the truck.
Rod,thanks for the reply.Colemen in BR;that is the same place my buddy got the Tacoma at a very good price, with none of the usual "salesman tricks" that are regularily pulled here.I got mine at Lakeside Toyota, and after the deal was made, and I wrote the check, thye suddenly said they had made a mistake on the rebate, and I would have to pay $1500 more!Of course,I said "no way",but it went on for another 2.5 hours, with them trying to get $800,then $500,then trying to switch me off to a SR5 V-6(several thousand dollars cheaper) at the same price, then they said"just $200 more so the sales manager can save face".I passed, and got up to leave, and they finally relented and we made the deal as originally written. Now,they were so smooth during this post deal negotiotion, that I am still not completely sure if they were lying about the 2001 Limited not being eligible for the $1500 rebate. We were working under the assumption that there would be a $1500 rebate for a Limited+a $1500 Rebate for being a V-8,for a $3000 total rebate. At the last minute they said the 2001 was not eligible, just the 2002 were eligible for the Limited rebate.(new truck, but a 2001 Limited that hadn't sold for some reason).I felt like I had gone 8 rounds with Lennox Lewis after this negotiation.I will check out Coleman next time;and the dealers out west -Carson-they partially support this site.Their online prices are very good. Thanks,Charlie
The one negative about Coleman is their service department. They suck. For service I use either Team or Price LeBlanc in B.R. depending on what I need done. For things like brake or tire vibration or hard to duplicate or diagnose problems I use Team. For the less intensive problems or "normal" service work I use Price just because they are closer to me, not quite as good as Team but a lot better than Coleman.
When did you buy your truck? When I was at Team last Friday, they had a bunch of Tundras on the lot with $2500 rebates and I think they were 2002 V8s. Not stripped models either!
The truck I have now is actually my second Tundra. (Had a BAD wreck and totaled first one) The first one was a 2001 SR5 access cab V8 and they had a great deal going at the time. $5000 off of sticker. At the time, no one around here would even get close to that (3-01). Pretty straight forward on the price! And it was $2000 less than Price was willing to sell a 2000 model with 20K miles on it for. Same straight forwardness on the truck I have now but when I got this one, instead of Toyota offering $2000 rebates, they only offered $500. I guess Toyota was selling a lot of trucks that month. That's why I ended up with a V6. Only had so much insurance money.
I really hate the hassle and heartache buying a new vehicle can be. I was "tagged teamed" before myself a few years ago when buying my wife's Honda. Hate it!
Next time you're in the market for a new Toyota, check out Coleman in B.R.
