Question 1st oil change experience

Changed oil at exactly 1k.Any advice on changing oil filter. There is a shield on the bottom. I took filter off from the top. Kind of a pain in the butt. some oil split and had to wipe off. Why didn't Toyota place oil filter in more accesible position? Also any information on greasing vehicle? Thanks Art

Easiest way to change the filter is to drop the skid plate, there are a total of 9 bolts I think. Regarding greasing - do you have a 4wd or 2wd?

You need to grease the drive/propeller shaft every 5K miles - there are 7 zerks. See "INFO: Tundra Propeller/Drive Shaft Maintenance " in the "Garage" forums. There is also a "HOW-TO: Change Engine Oil and Filter" which may have helped you out earlier.

8 zerks.
Front driveshaft, front & rear universal. Use a needle adapter and standard grease.

Center Cardan Joint: 3 fittings, moly grease

Rear driveshaft, front & rear universal. Standard grease.

Rear driveshaft spline. Standard grease (but some folks prefer moly)

I park on a level surface, block the wheels, shift to neutral, release the parking brake, jack up one rear wheel, check those wheel chocks! Now I can rotate both driveshafts by hand. If you park on a hill and don't chock the wheels and your truck rolls into a septic tank pumper truck...you didn't get the idea here.

Yes, become a supporter. It costs $12 per year, and any mistake you make on your truck maintenance without the info in the supporter section will cost you more.

When changing the oil on my Tundra, I don't drop the skid plate, I never have. I take either a garbage bag or a large zip-lock bag, open it up, and tuck it in behind the filter so that when I loosen and remove the filter, the oil drains into the bag. Easy and no mess.

Looks like everyone gets the same experience first oil change... I dropped the skid plate on my 2nd change to steam off all the crud that stuck after the sloppy 1st change. Last 3 changes (at 5000 mile intervals) I've just slid a piece of heavy aluminum foil on top of the pan and up under the filter to guide the oil into the drain pan.
