Default Squeaky engine, not serpintine belt

Hey guys i've got a certified '01 tundra that i bought about 5 months ago. It had 50K miles when i bought it and have only but about 3K on it since then. Just in the last 3 weeks its been squeaking pretty badly when i first start it up, but later in the day it wouldnt squeak at all. I thought it was the serpintine belt so i cleaned it off and but some belt dressing on it but it kind of made the problem worse. Now it doesnt squeak but it makes of whiney sound with two tones. Unlike the chirping squeak, it sounds like this all the time. I did some investigating and when the A/C is on max its a quieter whine but when the A/C is off or on low the squeaky whine becomes louder. So im pretty sure its the air compressor or some part of the a/c unit, maybe a loose bearing? You guys have any ideas? Dont really wanna have the dealer look at it since theres no warranty on it. Thanks in advance.

if it's a certified, then it should still be under your powertrain warranty! Have em take a look.

I imagine these engines have a dynamic belt-tensioner... I had that fail on one of my non-toyotas and it had symptoms much like yours.

I had the same problem...it is your accessory drive belt.

Open the hood and it is the belt you can see that goes around the fan, alt, a/c comp....etc. This is causing your squeak, replace this belt and your squeak will be gone!

Serpentine belt and Accessory belt are one in the same.

Given that the sound changed after you cleaned and dressed your serp belt is pretty much a confirmation that it is the source of the noise. This is a known issue with our trucks. I replaced mine at around 60k miles because the original was starting to chirp in the mornings.

$27 bucks will buy a Gatorback at Auto Zone. It's sort of a puzzle to figure out how to change it but once you do it's very easy. Many posts on how to do it can be found in this forum.

Good luck

On most of the Fords that I have owned (before Toyota) the belt tensioner was the dude making the squeek. I used to squrit a little oil on the back of the bearing and it would stop it for a while. Would do that if it was still under warranty---Buzz

My mechanical (35 years of large hvac systems) experience with expensive belt dressings tell me they're very temporary and just delay doing what should be done. Change the belt first and avoid the sticky goo all over your work area.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

An easy way to diagnose belt noise is to lightly spray some water on the belt top surface and V surface. If the squeaking stops for a very short time, the noise is coming from the belt.
