Default New Transmission on 2000 Tundra 2WD

Well, sometime during the great Texas floods of 2002, my transmission busted. My wife was driving it and said that it started stalling on her. Three trips to the dealer for some water related trouble shooting (she said she drove it through a big puddle just before it started stalling) and they were at a loss.

The first time, they saw the problem but it "went away" after running the engine for awhile... I took it home and two days later, it's dying again..

Back to the shop... This time they replaced the torque converter. They test drove it and said the problem no longer occured. On the way home from the dealer, my truck dies at a stop sign... back again (this time, they hooked me up with a rental.. very cool)

Now I get the explanation that basically, the flywheel was never disengaging. This makes sense because the truck would stall out when in gear and below 1K RPM's.

I get a call the next morning saying that there are "pieces" of transmission floating around. It was replaced under warranty, and now I'm back on the road...with a new tranny.

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone has similar stories or is surprised by it.

Incidently, they (the dealer) can only guess that this happened if my wife hydroplaned through the puddle then the wheels griped and slammed the tranny. Not sure though..

Any thoughts, or opinions?

The dealership was very helpful at resolving the issue, I'm very please with the service, especially the rental car. (Universal Toyota in San Antonio)

Glad to hear that you got it fixed, and under warranty too. Also glad to hear that Universal did you a good job as well. I have been debating on who in town to take my truck too. I got my trailer wiring letter from Toyota and need to take it in.

Default Oh yeah

speaking of the trailer wiring... When I brought it in the first time, they fixed that even though I didn't mention it. There reasoning must have been something like "well, we can't find anything wrong with it, but at least let's fix this while we have it here.."

I thought that was cool

There is a TSB out for that on the earlier model trucks. I got a letter from Toyota saying just bring it in, they will take care of it.
