Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "20.5 Miles Per Gallon!", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well, I finally got the mileage results from my aftermarket installations (Turbo muffler, Tornado Performance Booster and K&N drop in replacement air filter). I got 20.5 mpg on my last tank of gas which is a 13% increase over the 17.8 mpg my Tundra was averaging before the installs.
I installed all three within a week of each other, so I don't know which one contributed the most. The prices are as follows: muffler, $62 installed; tornado $78, air filter $52 ($192 total). Since I drive about 11,000 miles per year, I will save nearly $120 per year on gas (given a $1.45/gallon average).
Even without a cost savings, the added HP is FUNNNNN!!!!!! I just love it when a Civic/Eclipse pulls along side and goes for the pass
Check out my pics to see it. The TPB is a stationary (no moving parts) fan which fits in your air intake behind the air filter and mass air sensor. It gives the air a good spin to maintain velocities around bends and maintain fuel atomisation. You can read more at www.tornadoair.com
I got 20.6 MPG with my stock 2WD Tundra and a TRD dual exhaust system.
That Tornado twisty thing you have is a scam. Consumer Reports did a test on that thing testing three vehicles. One vehicle lost power and the other two had no change.
An acquaintance of mine ran his fiero on a Dynamometer with and without that thing and he lost a few horsepower with it.
I agree with V8toilet ...your better off using your stock intake ---they did a air filter test in this forum. It should give all the information you need in regards to intake ---save your 70.00 bucks
Are you sure you have a Tundra? Mine with K & N Drop-In, Tornado Air, and Flowmaster muffler has yet to get over 13.5. I was very disappointed with my mods.

Flowmaster, K&N, Etc.
13.5 mpg man that has to be the worst gas mileage I have ever heard of for a Tundra. Most people here are getting between 15.5 and 16.5 on average with there 4*4 v8 Tundra's. The worst I ever got was 14.7 and that was my second tank of gas from when it was new. I never got below 15 mpg ever since.
Do you have larger than stock size tires or something.
Gee, I have been getting between 11-12 latley. I don't know whats up with that. I didn't get quite as good on the freeway as I expected either. I guess I was going pretty fast though, so I can't complain.

My lowest mileage was 14.5 and that was on my second tank. After the newness wore off I averaged 17~18 city with 265/70 R16's on my 2WD running 32 psi (warm pressure). Then came the mods and Voila, 20.5 mpg.

My last tank (in town) was 13.5 mpg. I have had as low as 10.5 and a high of 15. Highway averages about 15-16 mpg. Best EVER was 17.5 mpg.

Nope, it was still new then and I think my foot felt like "lead". I am not complaining though, most of my driving seems to be over the speed limit anyway.

I'll have to go with SATundra on this one. I get lousy mileage.
13.5 in town before 285's, now about 12 mpg with them. I get about 15 on the highway. I tend to be heavy-footed, but not too bad. I'm wondering if something is dirty other than air cleaner. Maybe air flow sensor?
I drive like a mad man sometimes and I still average 15.5 when I drive that way. I had no noticeable change in my gas mileage when I changed over to Synthetic motor oil and I keep track of what I get for mileage every week.
