Question OEM Plug Question.

I could have sworn that at least one of the 2UZ-FE engines found in either the LX 470, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, or the Tundra V8 were 100,000 mile Iridium plugs. But after reading some of the posts here it seems quite obvious that the Tundra V8's OEM plugs aren't 100K Irudium plugs. I guess maybe the 100K Iridium plugs are only in the LX 470 and/or Land Cruiser. I bought my 2000 Tundra V8 used and there is no telling if the previous owner installed the right plugs or even bothered to change the plugs at all. What are the time intervals to change the plugs and what kind of OEM plugs come with the Tundra 2UZ-FE(Regular Plugs, Platinum Plugs, or Iridium Plugs)? Thanks in advance!

Nparrot again, thanks! I guess only the LX 470 and the Toyota Land Cruiser gets the Platinum or Iridium Spark Plugs, especially since most owners of those vehicles probably really will never ever think to ever maintain them except MAYBE for changing the oil and oil filter(at the dealership of course).

Question Dual Ground Electrodes in 2UZ-FE as OEM?

I was reading the owner's manual and it strongly recommended the use of dual ground electrode spark plugs for the V6 5VZ-FE but it doesn't say anything about the 2UZ-FE V8. Then at the bottom of the page(pg177) it says in the yellow box under NOTICE to use only twin ground electrode spark plugs for your engine performance. Again, I guess they are only reffering to the V6. Does the V8 come with twin ground electrode spark plugs from the factory? Thanks in Advance.

There is an optional platinum plug available for the v8 Tundra. Toyota part no. 90919-01196/ Denso no. PK16TR11. These are 60k plugs. Got mine for about $8.00 each.

They are standard Denso u-groove plugs in both the Tundra and Sequoia V8's with a 30K service life. Interesting enough, at 25K, I went to the dealership to get the plugs. They insisted they were the upgraded $8 plugs. I talked to the service manager, he said the same thing. I walked over to the truck, pulled a plug, it was a normal $2 plug (I already knew). I then insisted that the "wrong" plug was installed at the factory, and then insisted they install the "right" $8 plug on Toyota. After they whiped the "pie" of their face, I got the 8 $2 plugs for free. Also got 8 more for free for the Sequoia after a 1/2 hour tirade with the owner of the dealership, a talk that centered around his staff's professionalism and training. Another lesson for the unknowing and sometimes just "unethical" dealerships. I actually find it quite amusing and got free tune-up parts to boot!! But it is sad that dealerships let down such a good product. We all must demand the best service if it is to get better. I'm sure Mr. Toyota in Japan would have fired the whole lot and orphaned the familty if this happen in Japan!

Does anyone else here have the optional $8.00 platinum plug installed in their Tundra V8 or Sequoia? How statisfied are you with the plug's performance? I take it that the performance of this optional plug should be about the same as that of the regular OEM plugs but the platinum plugs just last an extra 30K. If the performance is equal to or better than the OEMs I will get the $8.00 platinum plugs.
