Default Fuel Injector Removal and Install - Any Advice?

I'm going to pull my fuel injectors and send them off to get refurbished due to some engine performance issues that remain as a result of getting some really dirty fuel. Fuel filter has already been replaced.

I haven't been able to find much on TS regarding this. The procedure looks straight forward enough, but I was just wondering if anyone who has ever done this has any tips or advice?

Here are a few places that I am considering to refurb my injectors. Any experiences with these or others, good or bad?

WitchHunter Performance
Affordable-fuel-injection
Accurate Injector Service

Many thanks,

Paul

Definately send them to Witchhunter, Gordon is a great guy and has been very helpful to me with questions relating to fuel injectors and my supercharger kits. His pricing is excellent. Be sure to loosen the fuel tank cap to vent pressure and slowly crack a fuel line with a rag wrapped around it. It is best to do this with a cold engine, because the pressure will be bled off and there is no hot exhaust to worry about

Thank you very much for the tips and recommendation. I thought I was going to be talking to myself in this thread.

also, i think when i changed the fuel filter i actually pulled the fuel pump fuse, turned the engine over and let it die to drop the pressure before loosening anything on the fuel line. at least, i think i pulled the fuel pump fuse...maybe i did something else similar, but the idea was fuel didnt squirt out of the line when i loosened the flare nuts. should work the same for changing the injectors. still needed a rag and a pan for seepage, and ditto on the cold engine/exhaust.

The places that service injectors all advertise that they replace the o-rings and anything else that is replaceable as part of the job. That leaves me to get new washers and seals that go on the fuel rails. Anyone know if these come in a kit or am I going to have to work with the parts guy to identify each one?

I'm going to have to wait till next week to pull my injectors due to work.

Thanks for the tips. If anyone can think of anything else, don't hesitate to post it.

I am interested in what kind of diferrence this will make. Are you having them tuned for better performance or just getting them cleaned and matched?
Do they options for more horsepower motors(supercharged)? Keep us posted on this.

I sent them off for cleaning only. I got a very dirty tank (or more) of gas that clogged up my fuel filter and gave my engine a slight vibration when I rev it in neutral. A before and after flow and pattern test is provided with the service, so I should be able to confirm whether or not my injectors were effected by the dirty gas which I suspect is the cause of my engine vibration.

Many injector service companies advertise increasing injector flow rates for modified engines. I just want my engine to stop vibrating which causes the rest of my truck to shake.

I got an e-mail confirmation yesterday that my injectors are on their way back, so I might be up and running fairly soon. I'll post the results.

Picked up my injectors today and according to the test results printout, two of my injectors were off from the other six. Although I don't know the significance of the BEFORE test results, this does support my deduction that I had an injector imbalance. Pictures of my refurbed injectors and a scan of the test sheet are in the Injector Removal album in my gallery.

I'll reinstall the injectors tomorrow. I also have to remove my fuel tank to check the fuel pump screen.

I'll post the results after everything is back together.

My truck has 81k miles on it.

Since installing the refurbed injectors, my engine has smoothed out significantly. I haven't done many highway miles, which is where my injector problem was most noticeable, but things are looking good so far. The ECM is also readjusting to my S&S headers.

Is your truck showing symptoms suggesting injector problems?

not that im aware of. for quite a while it had a slight shudder in the idle, i think it may have been from a bad throttle body gasket since i just replaced it and havent noticed the shudder.

i was thinking more from a "time to clean them" standpoint...i know they get dirty and dont perform as well after a while, but not sure how long "a while" is.

getting them cleaned up, rebuilt and rematched is a much better and cheaper option than getting new ones, and fast too from the looks of it.

I'm thinking that if your truck isn't showing any obvious or even potential symptoms, that you don't need to get your injectors refurbed just yet. I happened to be lucky enough to have the issue forced upon me though.

Angry Re: Fuel Injector Removal and Install - Any Advice?

I am in the middle of a nightmare with Accurate Injector Service. Injectors they serviced two months ago were stuck open on first start after installation, flooding gas to cylinders. Took the car to the dealer this time. Access requires removing the intake manifold (again) and the full rail set was bench tested by the dealer. Two injectors were stuck open, and we had them replaced with new ones. In the dealers test drive after re-assembly, a third injector stuck- and we had to do it again. We opted to throw out all the serviced injectors and install all new. $1500.00 labor and materials.

Bill Sikes at accurate injector was called before we replaced anything, and told us there was nothing wrong; the sticking was normal and to hit them with a screwdriver handle. Of course that didn't work. Sent him a certified letter with copies of the bills, asking for a refund of the amount he charged as a minimum. Heard nothing for a month despite multiple follow up emails. Then he called to tell me I was stupid and ignorant. He has made every excuse you can imagine, and still indicates that he doesn't believe the problem even happened. Currently it's in the hands of Arizona Consumer fraud for investigation.

On the other hand- WitchHunter people are great, and I would recommend them. Don't know anything about your third choice.
