Default engine noise

I am getting a noise in my v8 when I first start my truck that makes it sound like a Diesel. It goes away after a few minutes, does anyone know what this is, or had the problem

24k.. I was just looking at it during lunch, It doesn't appear to have any exhaust leaks.

Don't think you'd be able to see the crack if it was on the manifold ....

I believe the noises you are hearing is referred to as "piston-slap", which is common until the pistons warm-up, expand, and fit without making noise while running.

Anybody else care to comment?

Rtetrault,

Perform a search for piston slap, diesel - you will find a few posts. Some Tundras are worse than others. I've had two. During cold months, the 2000 sounded like a diesel until it warmed up; the 2001 does not.

I'm not sure that is the case, the truck has 24k, It didn't use to do it. It is more likely the manifold.

You might want to do a search for the thread "Deisel Knock Tracking" under Engine and Drivetrain. It has been active for quite a while.
