Default Borla exhaust vs. TRD

I have a buddy who runs a Toyota dealership parts dept. on the East Coast and I called him to see if I could get a great deal on the TRD dual exhaust. He says they carry the Borla stainless steel exhaust. The price he quoted me was exactly the price from Carson Toyota as posted on this site.

What's the diference between the two, does anyone know? Why would a Toyota dealership be carrying something else other than Toyota parts?

Not sure about differences in performance or sound. The only thing I'm totally sure of is the tips. The TRD tips are oval vs. round and has TRD etched into them.

The borla is made out of much better materials. 100% aircraft quality SS, fully welded, no crimps. Warranty is much better (million miles), louder for sure.

go borla

Great, thanks for the info. I had a little trouble negotiating the Borla website. Is the exhaust I want for my Tundra the only one they offer for the EC SB (extended cab short bed per their description)?

Thanks

there are several defferent configs

There are duals one out each side, single exit stock config, and I'm not sure if they make it anymore but when i bought mine there were duals out one side as well.

Thumbs up

ctm

My TRD duals should arrive from Carson this week. Would have purchased the Borla exhaust but was concerned they would be too loud. Either way you go they will look sweeet and sound cool.

Let me know your thoughts after installation. I don't want real loud either, so I'm interested in your opinion.

thanks

Default TRD...

I live here in lovelly south western OHIO....AKA Cincinnati. I have TRD Duals on my Tundra. I removed the extra muffler and it made it loud enough but not to loud. My shop is in Miamitown and I live in Fairfield. E-mail me if you want to hear it and see how very well the system is constructed. 304L S.S. and polished you simply can't beat the quality. You should put it on yourself and then goto a local Muffler shop and have them fab a new Y-pipe that eliminates the 3rd muffler it sounds sweet!

I have heard both the TRD and Borla in person. I own the TRD. They both have a mellow sound, the TRD being the slightly quieter and mellower of the two. I like the sound of both of them a lot though. The TRD is not too loud when you are crusing on the freeway. You can actually barley hear it when you cruise. I like that, it doesn't wear you out on a long drive. It sounds great around town too. You know it is there. I have a sound clip (it is 1/2 a meg), if you would like it I can email it to you. It has gotten a little louder since the clip was made. It gets louder the longer you have it on the car.

.

My Toyota dealer sells and installs only .... TRD and Borla.

Someone posted that the TRDs are made by Borla.

I liked the looks and sound of the TRD duals ... the Borlas were a bit louder.

Wanted a softer gurgle on the 5.7L and that is what I got with the TRDs.

Both are great .... it it true that Borla makes TRD duals for the 5.7L ??? ....
I was looking for that post, but couldn't find it.
