Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Engine models & Custom tuning", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
How many different V8 engine models has Toyota built so far for the Tundra ? Does anyone know of any links to show what years offered what models ?
Has anyone done any custom tuning on the Tundra ? I would love to play around with mine ... but am not sure where to start, or if there is even much aftermarket performance parts to warrant it. I have done some minor tuning on some Gen III GM motors and find it interesting. Made wonder about my truck.
If you have .... what products have you used (software/hardware). Not just software to read and analyze .... but that will modify the computer also (ie., EFI LIVE or TunerPro in the GM world).

Anyway, just curious ...
Not counting the upcoming UR-series V8,two. Both are 2UZFE,but starting in 2005 (or 2004,someone correct me if I'm wroing) variable valve timing (VVTi) was added.
And as far as I know, nobody offers software/hardware that modifies the stock ECU,only piggybacks. Techtom offered a map tracer/programmer/burner for OBD1 Toyota ECUs,but I don't think they offer OBD2.

Are all the V8's part of the 2UZFE series/model?
...In my reading I've run across reference to a 1UZFE, 2UZFE and 3UZFE - it's pretty much Greek to me so far).
There are some interesting posts here about forced induction and the 2UZFE engine needing stronger connecting rods to handle 2-digit boost levels. And I thought the 2UZFE is ALL aluminum, yet in another post the guy doing a rebuild on a grenaded 2UZFE and is talking about a cast iron 2UZFE block...
The 1UZFE and 3UZFE are aluminum block and heads 4.0 and 4.3 used in mostly Lexus cars in this country. The 2UZFE is a cast iron block with aluminum heads,4.7 used in the Tundra ,V8 Forerunner and Lexus 470 SUV
