Default stock exhaust and removing resonator??

Has anyone removed the resonator and kept the stock exhaust/muffler...putting a straight pipe in place of the resonator to the muffler?
I have seen a few threads about it but no one thats actually done it so far.
Can anyone post an audio clip of this?

I did not try that.. Might be interesting. I am not sure if you will get any performance from that though. I did cut my resonator off and weld in a 40 series flowmaster dual in dual out. You could not talk to yourself going down the interstate with the windows up. I had to come back and put glasspack in front of the flowmaster.. If you do it! Let us know!

If its flow you want, I would think the muffler itself would be quite a bit more restrictive than the resonator. The muffler will be a real labyrinth internally, while the resonator is probably just a perforated straight pipe or cavity with packing around it. In other words removing the resonator while leaving the stock muffler in place might not gain much.

Well, I don't know bout removing the resonator. MikeN., has a point with what he said. I removed the muffler and put a straight pipe where the muffler was on my 2006 DC Tundy & I couldn't be happier. It sounds great, not too loud and not too quiet, just a nice deep tone. The best part is that when cruising down the freeway at 70, you can barely hear it. Its only when accelerating from a stop, passing etc. etc. when you can hear it. Once at cruising speeds, you can just barely hear it. The best part is that I picked up some mid & top end.

So your factory muffler is just gone? How does that affect your emissions? Do you still pass emissions?

I was told that I could still pass emissions EVEN without the muffler! So yeah, you still could.

I took my stock resonator off and put straight pipe in, but I have the flowmaster cat back kit and it came with a resonator in front of the muffler. It opened up the sound a bit but it is not too loud.
