I love my TRD Duals that exist out of the side. IMO I think they look better from the rear instead of looking straight down an exhaust pipe.

I just see so many pipes where I live with big duals sticking out the rear and on the pickups around here they just look like a red-neck vehicle. I have seen many pics on this board of tastefully done rear exhaust too however.

I think it depends more on the tips. A good set of tips will look good in either location. Personally, I like side exit and love the way the TRD's look. One other reason i like side exhaust; my buddy was bumped from behind, no damage to the car or bumper, but he had to replace his exhaust system.

One other "plus" for a side exit, in my opinion, of course. You don't stand there getting exhaust dumped on you while working on hitching/unhitching a trailer.

Side exhaust is also nice if your launching a boat. When Ford redesigned the F-150 they had exhaust's that exited just in front of the rear wheels for just that reason.

Cool

Also, if you put a topper on the bed a rear exit often allows fumes to be sucked into the bed area....Lethal to pets that you may have back there.

I have always liked side exhausts. Mainly for all the practical reasons mentioned in the previous posts.
I found another reason to like the side exhausts: it seems that almost everyone who does the dual setup has these big showey pipes going out the back (mainly big 3 trucks). If it's something that "everyone else is doing" count me out! Not only that, the majority of the time you see these trucks the owners are driving like knuckle heads.
It's the same reason I don't stick a chrome coffee can fart pipe on the back of my Honda Accord.

I personally like side exit as well. I think rear exit on a truck looks funny. It looks like there is too much hanging down below the bumper (unless there is some sort of body kit type thing lower than the exhaust). I like rear exit on cars because the pipes down hang down below the body, there is usually some sort of indent in the bumper or a side valance that hangs lower than the exhaust (think Mustang GT). It look more like it is coming out of the back of the car, rather than from underneath it. I do like the look of a side exhaust that has the tips swept back (on a truck).

LOL-I've often thought it would be really funny to actually put a Folgers can on as an exhaust tip just for a few days for comedic value.

I just changed my flowmaster system to rear exit with the big 3 1/2 tips. It sounds better. I also had the tips set farther back to they do not really protrude from the bumper. I will put some pics up as soon as I get my baby back from the dealer
