Default 99 Tacoma Fuel Pump Problem?

Hey all,

I am new to the website, and also new to owning my 99 Tacoma! I have been having a problem with the driving of it recently. Anytime I push the gas down, whenever I go over 1000 RPM, but under 2000 RPM, the truck bogs, and jolts. Could this be a fuel pump problem? Any information would be very useful. Thanks,

NW

It could be a fuel pump...or something else entirely. To test the pump, duplicate the problem with a fuel pressure gauge installed and compare to specs. Wouldn't hurt to have it check for stored trouble codes. As it is OBD II compatable, most major auto parts stores can check this for no charge, but be wary if they try to sell you something. Just because you have a code for a particular item (ie mass air sensor, for example), doesn't necessarily mean that the particular part is bad (could have an air leak, bad connection, wire shorted/open, bad ECM, etc.). Make sure you stick with genuine Toyota, NGK or Denso ignition parts, as well.

My 2000 does the same thing, gas mileage went down hill, no take off from low rpms and sometimes backfires through the airbox. I've been told I need new o2 sensors. I guess with 103000 miles wouldn't hurt to replace them anyway.

if the truck pulls hard like normal over the 2000 rpm mark, then
it is not the fuel pump. fuel pump/fuel filter problems cause starvation
issues.
typically, if the check engine light is not own, then you will find
the problem on the "spark" side. good luck yspert
