The oil is taken to a re-refinery where the contaminants and motor oil additives are
removed in a multi-step process.
• Step 1 Water, gasoline, and other light-boiling components are “flashed out” in a
dehydration unit.
• Step 2 Diesel fuels and gas oils are stripped away from the oil by vacuum distillation.
• Step 3 A thin-film evaporator extracts dirt, polymers, heavy metals, and other
contaminants from the base lube stock.
I agree with the above... that, I am NOT partial to Recycled Bulk Oil.
Although, it's a great money maker if I was in the OC business.
Question:
Kathy, realizing that yu are very pro OE Toyota filters as I used to be, are yu familiar with the 90915-20003 or 90915-SPO20? oil filters (identical parts with different lable)
The former being the OE Factory Installed Filter, unavailable anywhere except Japan. Dealer parts dept. laugh when I bring this number in for an order.
The latter being the TRD Sport filter available by spec. order from TRD only. ( retail $25.)
The media used is way superior,a completely different filter than the standard Toy OE replacements. TMS (USA) wants/allows Domestic Toyota consumers to use lesser quality $3.00 OE filters. Or, I must buy the TRD labled version and pay dearly for something I had originally installed from Japan. Do yu have an answer or a guess why?
Hint: Toyota Japan Domestic market TDM has more extended OCI's on their vehicles.
I would like your spin on this if yu have one.

What evidence do you have that Toyota requires the use of the use of the 90915-20003 oil filter if their customers in Japan want to follow a more extended OCI?
LT: What evidence do you have that Toyota dealers in Japan don't also sell the less expensive 90915-YZZD1 & D3 oil filters as dealers do here in the USA?

Maybe overkill. Maybe a waste of money. But definitely seems to be a better filter, wouldn't you agree? Mike
Mike, using an aftermarket filter is inherently risky in ways that the Toyota engineers understand, but the lay public does not. Here's a real life example of what happened to a Toyota Supra owner who used the Purolator Pure One filter: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k75/4af/supra.jpg
This tragedy wouldn't have happened if the Supra owner had used the Toyota 90916-YZZG1 oil filter because it has a 23% thicker and heavier steel casing. Ironically, Purolator actually makes the Toyota 90916-YZZG1, but Toyota required Purolator to build it with a 23% thicker shell compared to ordinary Purolator filters. Toyota also required Purolator to make other changes like building the Toyota filter with an extra durable acrylic O-ring type filter seal that can better withstand engine heat and won't stick to the engine block (and interfere with the sealing capability of a new replacement filter) when the old filter is removed.

I'm flattered, that yu find it necessary to go at any length, to counter both my professional and consumer oriented observations, in the behalf of Toyota Motor Sales.

Read this carefully everyone... Do yu see what/whom I see?

LOL. I'm curious to know who KR works for. Ummm....Toyota maybe? But then, maybe not and she's just a pureist. Either way, a woman w/ knowledge of automotives is always a +.

Yu said it it , not me?
BTW, No date...turned me down because unfortunately I don't have my ASE Master cert.
She is so facinating in any event.
But, her rants are not pure from the heart. She has an agenda to follow.
Re: Amsoil Eao Oil Filter test results: incredible!
I too have come to the conclusion that the AMSOIL filter is better, and have butted heads with KR on this and other issues. I'm convienced that KR is very biased against any mods made to whatever Toyota you drive. If it's not pure, your doing something bad.
I guess my few mods really make me BAD! But, hey KR, my truck still runs, and runs real good too!

Looks like I'm going to have to do some oil filter pricing research when I head back to Tokyo this summer. Very happy to check the pricing and compare againist the pricing offered over this way here in NA. Then we can see if KR squirms further.

You might want to drop by a Toyota dealer while you're in Japan and see if the Parts Depts sell the less expensive made in Thailand Denso oil filters (e.g. 90915-YZZD1 & 90915-YZZD3) or just the expensive made in Japan Denso oil filters (e.g. 90915-20003 & 90915-20004) Or if they sell both types of Denso oil filters.
Re: Amsoil Eao Oil Filter test results: incredible!
So what do you guys think about using the amsoil filter for more than one oil change? Has anybody done a test where they just changed the oil and left the amsoil filter in for another run? I wonder if it would maintain it's filter ability for say.....2 OCI of 7500 miles.
Re: Amsoil Eao Oil Filter test results: incredible!
I wouldn't. You are taking a filter full of contaminants and then running fresh oil through it. This is a bit like used needles during a blood transfusion. I would follow the manufacturer's recommended drain intervals no matter which oil or filter I used.
