Default They just unplugged the EFI sensor..........

I feel like my truck idles too rough. It's so bad that things visibly shake on the interior. I know it's a truck but it bothers me. So I took it to the dealer who could not find any error codes and said it was operating normally. But, he did say that the tech disconnected and then reconnected the EFI sensor that senses your driving habits and helps with idle control. He stated that this will cause the truck's computer to "re-learn" my driving habits. Is this true?

Additionally, if you can believe this, he advised me that there could be some carbon build-up on the pistons and said that I should drive it a little more aggressively. Wow....a dealer telling me to drive it harder. BTW, it only has 4900 miles on it.

thoughts?

Yes, this is true.

Try a good fuel system cleaner such as Primrose or Chevron's Techron according to the instructions on the label every oil change.

EDIT: Also, try cleaning the throttle body really well with some throttle body cleaner. Sometimes that will help the idle.

TundraGA,

My truck was starting to idle roughly also. I tried the fuel injector cleaners and it did not help. I just recently switched from ARCO to Chevron gas and after a couple of tanks I noticed that the idle is smoother. I am going to continue to see if it goes away completely.

Thanks for the replies guys. I also thought about upgrading to 89 octane. Maybe that'll help too.

That would be a waste of money. This engine doesn't require 89 octane.

TundraGA, this is why I mentioned Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner. Chevron gas comes with Techron in it, but if you don't use Chevron gas, you can use the Techron additive. You can add it a couple ounces every fill-up or a whole bottle every oil change, which is what I do, but with Primrose.

Andy,

I tried the Chevron fuel injector cleaner with Techron and it did not have any effect. Even tried premium gas with the same result. I did start to notice a difference after a couple of tanks of the Chevron. Does anyone know what the differences are between the major brands of gasoline? Do we have any experts on the Tundra boards? Anyone work for Big Oil out there?

BTW - I like those pictures of your truck out at the dez. Is that Ocotillo Wells?

That's weird about the Chevron Techron additive and the gas. I figured it would do the same job...maybe not? I've heard nothing but good about Chevron gas though.

Yeah, that's just north of Ocotillo Wells, right off of S22 heading toward the Salton Sea. I love it out there!
