    Default Oil Change Tundra 4.7L

Okay how many quarts of oil does it take to do a complete oil change on a Tundra 4.7L V8? The manual says 6.5 Quarts but someone told me that's wrong. Thanks for any replies.

Question I must have gotten a longer Dipstick

When I did my first ol change I used 6.5 and came up short on the stick.
So I put in 7qts. And the stick reads at the full mark.
I hope this is not hurting anything. It also keeps me from adding before the next change.

Did you start the engine before you read the stick? When the filter fills up the stick should read lower.

Thanks for your help guys. It just seemed 6.5 was too much for a 4.7L! And my buddy was wrong too he said 6.0 quarts was what it needed.

Invid...Your buddy is very, very wrong. The Tundra takes 6.5 quarts...period. Check all the threads on dipsticks and oil levels. Also, if you become a paid member, you can check the FAQs to see that 6.5 quarts is the correct figure.

Sounds to me like your "buddy" is jealous of your truck and wants to see if he can make you break it. Some buddy!

    Ciao.

Your didstick is a little short. It should take 6.5 quarts.

The original dipstick took 7 to fill. Toyota says that this is not harmful, but they still replaced the dipstics and you can get a free replacement from the dealer.

I'd check with your local dealer on replacing the dipstick.
