2003 Highlander tires feathering

I have a 2003 Highlander with 85000 miles on it. I purchased new Michelin XC-LT4 tires from Sears including wheel alignment and they now have 5000 miles on them. I rotated the tires today and noticed the front tires are feathering. At least thats what I think you call it from my research but most sites said it is from inside of tire to outside not front to back. When you rub your hand over the tire from front of vehicle to back it feels like there are sharp eges on the front of the tread and rounded on the back of the same tread. They feel smooth going from back to front. The rear tires feel smooth in both directions.

Is this due to wheel aligmnet only or could it be something else going bad. They did a wheel alignment when I got the new tires and I haven't hit anything since that would knock it out. I also have a vibrartion that started about 2 weeks ago when I hit 20 MPH.
Its like a shudder and goes away at 25 MPH. It seems more noticeable when under load like starting out going up hill. I don't think its tire related as its still there after I rotated the tires.

Thanks for any help.
Jerry

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with a very irritating whistling noise that occurs when the front windows are slightly opened.

My HL was side-swiped last July and something I started noticing after the damage had been repaired was this noise. The repair shop is now trying to tell my this is something common to all Highlanders, and I'd like to have that confirmed.

Thanks for any input that's out there!
It's the motor that makes the chair goes up and down and it is the one in the back. Since it is a seven way adjustable power seat, it has seven motors right? Are all the motor the same or different in some of them? Can anyone help me with the part numbers and price, please?

Hey guys,

took my 01 HL (v6) into the dealer for a timing belt change. yeah, its common sense to do both the belt and pump at the same time. however, i was going to do the water pump myself since i've done it on all my other cars, its never been a big deal.

i was told that the water pump is run by the timing belt and timing belt needs to come off to replace the water pump. is this true? most cars have the accessory belts running the water pump.

let me know thx

I have a 03 Highlander front wheel drive v6 with 120k

I just replaced the:
Timing Belt, Water Pump and gasket, Valve Cover Gaskets, Drive Belts, Spark Plugs, T-Stat, Hoses, Radiator Cap, and Coolant. I followed the Hanes Manual but now that everything is back together the car just cranks and will not fire up.

Any Ideas before I have it towed to the dealer?
Thanks.

Hi: I read on another forum that Toyota supposedly doesn't recommend a Weight Distributing Hitch for 2009 Highlander (due to excess strain placed on unibody). Is this true?

A trailer I'm considering has a tongue weight of 450-460 lbs (max rating is 500 lbs). I'm wondering if this will cause a problem towing using a regular weight carrying hitch.

Thanks!

I've read the posts on check engine, VSC and trac off lights.
I've replaced the bank 1 sensor 1 at the firewall after Advance Auto and Toyota Dealership mechanic determined the defect.
The check engine light is now off and stays off but the vsc and trac off lights keep coming on after clearing the codes with leaving the battery negative cable disconnected overnight.
The hose behind the air cleaner is properly attached and the gas cap is tightened past several "clicks".
Anyone have additional ideas to clear these lights?
Vehicle runs and handles fine.

I have a 2007 Highlander Hybrid with an in the dash combination navigation/audio/heat/ac unit. The GPS has gotten funky - vehicle icon jumps to the edge of the screen, odd addresses appear, and the unit beeps. Dealer says replace it with a reconditioned unit for $1675 or with a new one for ~ $6ooo. Is there a better solution? Will updating the nav system cure the problem?

Hi All, I recently bought a 2009 Highlander V6 Base FWD with a 5000 lb tow rating. I'd like to buy a small travel trailer next spring that weighs 4350 (actual weight from sticker with all options & full propane tanks). By the time we add the passenger weight and a small amount of cargo, we'll be at 4800-5000 lbs.

1) Is it safe to tow this closely to the max tow rating, assuming I don't exceed it and drive carefully?

2) The owners manual states I should not exceed 45 mph when towing. That seems very slow for an interstate highway - is that really necessary or is it just "lawyer talk"?

3) Do max tow ratings assume a single 150 lb passenger (as my Ford F350 did), or no passengers at all? Also, are they designed under "worst case" (i.e. long uphill stretch) or under "best case" (totally level road)?

Thanks!
Gary

Question Sunroof Drains - Driver Floorboard Wet - Dashlights on

Have a 06 Highlander - last few rains have left the driver floorboard soaked and when started electrical problems all over - no door locks, no A/C (fan worked), airbag light on, power windows dead except for driver window. First time, most of the dash warning lights stayed on. After a few days of drying out, things went back to normal. Thinking water may be getting to the fuse box in front of driver's left knee and shorting things out?

Having researched some posts, many state that this can be attributed to clogged sunroof (4) drains. I found the front two, not sure about the others. Also, where do these drains come out on a Highlander? Are there tubes in the pillars?

Thanks, Geech
