Default What grade fuel do you use?????

I did not realize our 08 FJ states to burn premium fuel. We have only been putting in 87 Octain. Runs fine with no noise, I will not buy premium and plan on staying with regular. What are the rest of you doing??

Thanks

Bob

It is only an extra $3.50 or so to fill up with premium. I would listen to the manual!

It doesn't matter...if the engine doesn't care.
An extra $3.50 per tank can translate to as much as $200 per year in fuel.(at a tank per week fillup)
How many tanks per year do yu average??? That's a personal call.
i.e., if your FJ is a weekend leisure vehicle then Premium won't dent your wallet.

Keep things in perspective. If it runs fine then it's ok to use Regular.

Premium generally yields somewhat better performance. Some notice it...some don't. But these Toyota engines control engine knock/ping by adjusting timing accordingly.

The higher the Compression ratio the more Octane yu would want ...as a general rule.

Regular unleaded. I quit using premium shortly after buying my 2007FJ in August of 2006. Never had any problems with the lesser fuel, nor noticed pinging or decreased performance. Seems odd that the same engine that is in the Tacoma somehow needs higher grade fuel when in the FJ.

Actually we traded our 07 Tacoma V6 in on our FJ. The Tacoma did recomend premium. We never used anything but regular though. Averaged 18 to 20mpgs. I think if you tow you would probably notice it maybe by engine pinging or just less tourque.

I put 87 in mine. Every couple of weeks I will throw a tank of premium in there to flush everything out. I don't know if it works but it makes me feel better.

Makes no sense at all whatsoever. What are YU flushing out?????????????????

It appears that it is not what Octane is in your tank that counts at all....but what's in your mind !!!!
Time to flush your head. It is over filled with much confusion.

I use the regular 87 octane in mine and have ever since I have owned it (since Jan. '07) with no problems.

I too, soon after buying it noticed the premium fuel only sticker inside the fuel door but I asked a couple different service tech.'s at the dealership about it and they all told me not to bother wasting my money, premium wasn't necessary.

I've been using 87 in my 07 TRD SE with the best mileage to date at 19.7 driving real conservative. My mixed mileage is around 18. I have noticed slight pinging a few times mostly when pulling my trailer and I just top it off with the expensive stuff and it takes care of the pinging right away. My mileage was less until I got the engine good a broken in too.

Try to check your mileage on a full tank of regular vs. a full tank of premium. You should get better mileage with the premium. Most modern engine will cut back ignition timing to compensate for lower octane fuel to prevent pinging.
