FJ CruiserGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
This is a discussion thread titled "FJs windshield-big bug collector", within the FJ Cruiser forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Whats up with the windshield, it catches every bug within 50 yards!!
Has anyone tried some kind of bug shield on the front to force the wind over the windshield??? Probably would not look good but I wounder if anything is out there or not.
Bob

A bug deflector is what yu need! Your windshield is very verticle and catches everthing including rocks etc.. Nothing new at all to FJ owners.
The FJ is a Truck....why would a bug deflector bother yu. It is a prerequisite for all FJ owners... not just for the bugs but to help protect that expensive windshield from cracks and chips which most FJ owners are reporting as a problem design flaw.
Personally I don't like Bug Deflectors either, but yu really have no choice on the FJ. And they do work ...some better than others depending on the brand and designs shape.
yeah any vehicle with a near/closer to verticle windsheild angle will kill the bugs and make them stick the tundra had a similar situation but i think we have more of an angle than the fjs id reccomend a bug deflector
Has anyone seen or have a bug deflector on a FJ.
Thanks
Bob

I ordered one from Toyota when I ordered my FJ (Aug.'06), mainly to protect the front edge of the hood from chipping. It really is just a hood protector, with little of no bug deflection- the windshield still takes the brunt of winged flight.
However, the other function is to give a clearer idea of where the front of the truck is when parking etc.
I have yet to see any FJ with either the same protector as mine, or a real deflector. In summer I compensate by carry a bottle of bug solvent, a roll of paper towels, and a bug scrubber pad anytime I hit the road, especially to the cottage.
On the positive side, with 31000 km to date, I have only two paint chips, on the windshield posts, unlike the horror stories shared here about prolific chipping.
As I posted earlier in another thread, the side window deflectors did nothing to lessen the noise inside when running with the windows down, but it does allow leaving them down 1.5 inches in heavy rain without incident.

Thanks for the info. I also have the vent visors but only got them to allow us to leave the windows down a little in the summer time. I think most of the road noise is from the roof rack.
Thanks
Bob
