Default 2007 FJ Mileage Update: for 41116 km

I haven't been in here for a while....

Today I pulled out my '08 cache of receipts and updated the spreadsheet. Here's what I found when the calculations were done.
2007 FJ 4x4 automatic
My driving is a mixture of city and highway, with more in-town. On weekends, the truck is loaded to the roof with equipment. No more than 1500 km total with a trailer or boat.

From my first fillup on July 27/06, I've put on 41,116 km to date.
All gas has been regular, except for two tanks of high test, but no ping or knock has been experienced.
I've used 5132.705 litres of fuel, for a total cost of $5193.63
My gas mileage overall is 22.62 mpg Cdn, or 18.83 US.
I've met all of the scheduled maintenance and have nothing but positives to say about the truck. Lots of tread on the original tires at 41,116 km, and more than 65% of the original brake pads left. Not a single thing has gone wrong with any aspect of the truck, a far cry from the previous 30 years of GM vans, Astros, Blazers, Jimmys.

No paint flaking or chipping. No rust. Outside, it still looks like new with minimal effort. The seats are mint, showing no wear whatsoever- a great fabric! The only complaint I have is a lousy quality connector on the trailer hitch/light hookup.

After 21 months of ownership, I can still say it is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

(For those who read this yesterday and saw the high mpg figure: I knew something had to be wrong. Seems I had another stack of receipts to enter- my mistake. This is now complete and up-to-date)

I've thought about getting a FJ but decided to wait and see if Toyota will bring a light diesel to the US in the next couple of years. I've driven light diesels in Europe and they are great in my opinion. The Tacoma's (HiLux) sold in Germany are all diesel (no gasoline version).

I'd bet a light diesel with similar HP and greater torque would be up over 25mpg US.

Good data

That about the same as I average with the tacoma, same drive train. I hit 27.4 mpg (Can) in the summer once.

I average about 16-20 mpg, depending on whether I have the kayak on top, am pulling the boat, or driving 75-80 mph on the interstate. I've actually gotten 23 mpg on long trip along backroads, when I had the time tio drive 55. I use regular unleaded only, and never noticed any problems.

I can't understand all the discussion about mileage for the FJ; this is a full-size SUV & mine gets 20 mpg daily & 23 on the highway, great for a vehicle of this class & size. We don't drive them for the mileage. If mileage is high on the list of important things to anybody, buy a Subaru or a Ford Escape. It would be nice if the FJ got more MPG but it does well for what it is. We can't have everything....

I've been adding octane booster to regular 87 octane fuel and have a noticeable increase in fuel efficiency.
