The FJ will be discontinued for 2010. No plans for a V8.
This is when the new 4runner comes out (2010).

The FJ may still make it in your region, but in the US it will be cancelled. The new 4 runner is supposed to be able to takes its place. I didnt make the decision, this is just what my Toyota contacts have told me and what the news has stated over and over.
I know many people who own them and they are very loyal and love their FJ's.
But I did find this.
Quote:
DCur: Welcome to Toyota Live Chat. How may I help you?
Robert B: I was surprised when I went onto the Toyota website and tried to "build your own" of an FJ Cruiser. All that is listed is 2008. What happened to 2009?
DCur: I apologize for the disappointment.
DCur: Because of the inventory of 2008 models and the limited 2009 vehicles, Interactive Marketing had planned to skip from 2008 to 2010.
DCur: However, the current plan is to put the 2009 model back on the website some time before the September launch of the 2010 model.
DCur: Exact timing has not been determined yet.
DCur: Most of the information for the 2008 vehicle applies to the 2009.
Robert B: Well, now the question arises--what differences will there be between the '09 and the 2010? Do you anticipate any new colors?
DCur: We haven't gotten any info for the 2010 just yet, the newest info pertains to 2009.
DCur: The additions for 2009 are the VSC OFF function, Active Headrests for the front seats & roll-sensing curtain airbags.
Robert B: I saw a Special Edition at SEMA last October. It was a metallic beige color with a matching roof. When will this one be available?
DCur: It MAY be available for 2010, you would have to check with the dealership for availability.
Robert B: I have been to my local dealership. They said because of the economy and the lack of sales, the FJ Cruiser will be discontinued. Any truth to this?
DCur: No, we haven't been advised of a discontinuation of the FJ.
Robert B: Do you specifically work for Toyota? I am nervous about buying a vehicle that might not be available in the near future.
DCur: Yes, I am here at Toyota Headquarters in Torrance, CA.
DCur: The information I've provided you was an update sent out to us 04/08/09.
Robert B: Is there someone specifically I could email or talk to that handles the FJ Cruiser? I would like to make sure this vehicle is going to be around at least through 2010 before I purchase. Can I do that?
DCur: Sure, the number here to Headquarters is 1-800-331-4331.
Robert B: Who would I speak to regarding specifically the FJ Cruiser?
Robert B: Is there a project manager for this specific product?
DCur: When you call in just advise the representative of your concern & we'll be sure to get you in the correct dept.
Robert B: Okay. I think you have answers my questions to the best of your ability. I will need to speak with someone there specifically.
DCur: Perfect! Is there anything I can assist you with?
Robert B: I don't think so.
DCur: Thank you for contacting Toyota, you have a great day!
I hope they do continue it... so i think only time will tell. It all depends on who you talk to.

There has been two "official" rumors of the FJ cruiser since the minute it was released in early 2006 as a 2007...

1) That they would make a v8 next year
2) That it would be discontinued next year.

I wouldnt take either as truth, though they did discontinue production in some plants to make smaller more efficient cars.

Porsche did the same thing with what is probably their most profitable car, the Cayenne, in 2007.. none exist.

Now, if you want more power, I recommend aftermarket or TRD Turbo.

no more FJ Cruiser. thats why I bought a 2008, I had traded my 2007 FJ on a 2007 Tundra Double Cab, but decided to sell the Tundra and get another FJ, and BTW, I already have another Tundra, so with two tundras it was ok to get rid of one.

I got a killer deal on the 2008 FJ, $24,700.

and I got the Tundra for $27,500, they took over $5k off the price, and 0% interest, so when I sold it, I did not get taken to the cleaners, I did quite well.

The 4.7L will bolt right up to the 5 speed automatic, you can use complete off the shelf parts, throw in a supercharger, but seriously all you need to do is bolt on a supercharger to the V6

the Lexus GX470 aka Landcruiser Prado is where the Frame for the FJ came from, the frame has been in production over 10 years now. and you can swap all of the lexus drivetrain parts over to the tundra, including the CPUs and wiring harness if you are willing to spend that kind of money or just bolt on the TRD supercharger to the V6.

What I would like to see is the 4.5l variable vane twin turbodiesel V8 used overseas and in australia, some people are importing the landcruiser over with that diesel v8 to the US, I have found them on ebay from time to time.

I want one of these

These Landcruisers have Front Solid Axles !!! just like the landcruisers of yore
