I was just wondering how many people plan on getting one? I'm seriously considering it. the look has grown on me, and they seem to be useful. Either way i'm waiting to see one in person and until others come get it and i hear about it!
They do seem to be sort of cool. I'm not totally in love with the looks though. An open top version would be really sweet though. I'm looking forward to see what sorts of aftermarket support this vehicle gets. I'll bet it will look a lot more appealing with a bit of aftermarket love.
For the money it seems like you could find a nice used 4Runner or Land Cruiser to wheel in also. The FJ would probably be faster and get better fuel economy than either of those vehicles though.

I just visited the Toyota site for Australia. They have a diesel powered truck that looks totally awesome!!! http://lc78.toyota.com.au/TWR/vehicl...273_64,00.html visit this site and see for yourselves...and spread the word if you like it!!! I like them. They seem like rugged old reliable Toyotas of yesteryear. Maybe Toyota will bring them over here if we spread the word....
I will definitely look into getting one when it comes out. The question will be the price and lease program, and whether it fits my budget! Oh, and finding one with the 6-spd.
That thing is very nice Troop carrier or p/u. They are a picture of the past which needs to be returned again. I'm so sick of streamlined plastic pos. When you hit a tree in the woods its 3g's worth of damage. Those vehicles would be nice to import...
I'm concerned about back seat space. I don't even think the rear doors open w/o the fronts open; like my Tundra. The new '07 Jeep Wrangler 4-door may have a slight advantage for my $$. We'll see.
Do you guys think if this thing didn't have the heritage of the old Toyota FJ40 behind it that it would be as well received? In a way I fell like that if it didn't have this heritage it would follow the same fate as the Element. It has the same sort of funky look as the Element, but it has some cool heritage behind it. It also was designed to be more of an off roader than the honda.
Anybody know what platform the FJ is based on?

Well, I just talked the wife into replacing her aging Nissan Sentra with one. I'm keeping the Tundra and she can use this. I showed her some of the Toyota site pics of the FJ with the ARB on it... I don't think she was quite as excited about that as I was.

I'll be moving from San Diego to Portland, OR in the next two months. It might be nice to have a closed bed 4x4 given the rain and the ice that tend be present during the winters. I'm seriously looking into it but won't decide whole-heartedly until I get to sit in one and take it for a test drive.

Good luck with that!
Just know you'll spend the money you save upgrading and/or fixing the parts to be as solid as the FJ or any other Cruiser for that matter.
As for me buying one...maybe, if my business takes off like I want, but not for a few years. For now I am very happy with my uncomparable, impossible to deter or destroy FJ60 with the 2F tractor engine.

My dad is seriously considering trading his Taco on one. And, I'm somewhat considering getting one AFTER the first model year, selling the wife's Sequoia and getting her one. I, however, will be back in a Tundra within the year...

PS
I, too, would be more inclined to get one for myself if it was like the original w/ the removeable hardtop... I hope Toyota is listening...
