You guys are funny. All that tech crap and squabbling. Just go look at Consumer Reports and you would buy the Toyota because all of the Toyota's last and have good resale. If you don't believe the thousands of people or are skeptical of magazine bias, just go to Kelly Blue Book or any of the other value books----trucks that still run sell for more than one's that are broken/or break alot. Sorry for my run on sentance, but I was laughing so hard I couldn't break my train of thought. Hope my syntax is correct.
The FJ comes stock with a slightly bigger tires and FJ trail teams have gone slightly bigger than that on stock FJ's for the Rubicon I believe 285/75/16. The biggest a Tacoma can run stock is what the FJ comes with 265/70/17 or 265/75/16 or the itres will start to rub at full lock.
This was a major dilemma for me. I had a 1993 Jeep Cherokee w/213K miles, and it was time to get something new. The dealership was willing to deal on the Tacoma, but not much on the FJ, but I preferred the styling, and when you got down to it, I preferred the extra closed in space to the bed. Yes, now the game carcasses will go inside, but the rubber surfaces make clean up easy. Plus, the rack easily carries a 60# feral hog that is way too stinky to go inside. Now, getting it up there is another story. All in all I'm pleased with my purchase.
Wow, this is nice, a brother of mine got a 2007 H2 with 25,000 miles on it, fully loaded, from the dealer, new original price: $57,000.
he dropped the price down to 28k!. I think its great for cars like that to have that kind of depreciation.
But if you have money to spare, and don't care about quality and reliability, go for the NEW H2 or H3, They look killer!(use it while you can., or wait for the H4 and H5, in any case they are no way better than a Toyota... well at least not after you put some miles on the Hummers, after a few days of off roading, they start to get very noisy.
But I would never go on a hill or offroading far from a mechanic on a GM or Ford, not yet anyways, maybe depending future consumer report articles that will maybe state they are good (getting better).
I believe in that magazine, its common sense to go with reliable cars than NON-RELIABLE.
I just hope Toyota dosent get carried away with sales and starts lowering their quality.
Regarding the FJ vs Tacoma, my syster is getting one an FJ(I hope), if someone is getting the FJ and likes offroading, get the baja package.
FJ is not for me, its very nice, but still I would go with another year of consumer testing even for a Toyota. Why?, New 5.7 Tundra transmition.(I've been reading lots and Toyota has to fix a problem with the gearshifting. But next year Toyota would have all the bugs fixed for that.
I like my Tacoma, for your info, its made in Tijuana Mexico(like mine)! and Fremont, CA, and for a stock Sport Package 4x4, it really does well offroading. (comparing to other non-tweeked offroad vehicles).
Any toyota is good!, bottom line, everyone knows it.
They need better looks and more luxury for some people, but good thing Toyotas main goal is reliability, dependability and durability.
I need a good car, I don't have the time/money to take my car to the shop
If I did have $, then I would go with a GM or Ford chick like Hummers and Aviators/ Navigators what ever.
I disagree with GM having poor reliability and noisy interiors. My father owned a 2000 Sierra 1500 and a 2001 Tacoma, and the Taco was much louder inside as far as squeaks and rattles. 'Yota just owns mid-size trucks and SUV's with the taco and FJ, but I honestly wouldn't go Toyota with anything fullsize (no offense to anyone here).
Well, the yotas will win only on being the most reliable, which for me is the most important feature, a car that won't be in the shop.
But let me refrase on GMs, I'm not saying they are bad, not at all. But just not good as the yotas, hondas, +-nissans. = japanese.
Thats the bottom line. I really hope American and German cars can fix this situation on the reliability issue.
I really love the looks on the GMs and Fords. They have the best body styles in my opinion.
Regarding the fullzise.. not to be rude, but I think toyota will take it all in a few years.
F-150 best seller, why? Price/Rebates/Fleet.
Example, before I got my "midsize" Tacoma, that I still think its very small for a truck.
I went out looking for full size trucks.
I loved the 2007 F-150 FX4, 4 door /Leather, DVD/Navigation/Audiophile Sound!!/moonroof!, the works/ the work.! Price $44,000, I told the fleet manager. Thats too much. He got me the rebate and the fleet price of 29k !!!!!, why?, because they need to sell, they want numbers on the charts. = best selling full size truck.
I looked the truck up at Consumer Reports, truck isnt good.
My tacoma Sport 4 door 4x4 looks simple is simple-32k. But I know I got something good. I see F-150's and say to my self, (nice) but sarcastically, I know its not good.
Anyone who reads this, please see how many recalls or warranty issues on Ford and GM
By Vehicle sold, and compare it to Toyota and Honda, the charts on on the web, posted by the manufacturers them selves. That will answer all your questions, on who is the best, or should I say, the least troublesome!
Oct 17, 2007 on the AP "Toyota to recall 470,000 cars due to defective parts", different issue a little earlier this year, also on the AP "Toyota said Thursday it was recalling 533,000 Tundra pickup trucks and Sequoia sport utility vehicles because of potential steering problems". According to Mycarstats.com the ford f150 20 recalls, the tundra 28, and the tacoma 41... Maybe you should run a quick search before you make stupid unqualified comments, oh and I don't own a ford and I do own a toyota.
Isnt this a debate on a truck and a suv? Does this make sense to anyone but the morons debating it?
Actually, if we are talking reliability and off-road vehicles, we should bring in the JK Rubicon...I read an article that listed the same 20 recalls (F150), 28 (Tundra), etc., and the new JK Wrangler said 11 recalls...almost 1/3 of the Tundra, and lets not talk about the Taco lol.
IMO The H3 and FJ aren't really in the same class. I see the H3 as being more upscale, larger, now more powerful (it has a 5.3 liter V8... for 39,000 dollars), than the FJ - it is a 4Runner competitor imo. People may cross shop the two a bit but oh well.

I must have missed something, but where did Hummers come into this? lol I guess if I brought in a Jeep, it's fair enough to bring in a Hummer...though I don't think an H3 comes close to a Rubicon or FJ as far as off-roading.

I have to disagree here. The Hummer may have a V8, but the FJ is still faster. Throw in the TRD Supercharger and you would crap on a H3 Alfa. I have seen a lot of FJ's offroad and I have only seen 1 H3. I do a lot of fourwheeling to. On any given day if you go to Hollister Hills (our local 4X4 park) the number of FJ's will far exceed the number of new Jeeps and Hummers combined. People use these things off road and to be honest... I am pretty impressed. Hummers are for Soccer moms. I do agree, I think some people here need to got to hummer solutions.
