Default Full-time or Part-time 4WD

Should I get Full-time 4WD with a manual transmission or Part-time 4WD with an automatic transmission? What are the advantages and disadvantage of each system?

The manual version has lower "4 low gearing" and thus is better for rock crawling etc. Does anyone know if full time 4 WD is the same as AWD? I also own an Audi A6 and the AWD is awesome. I plan on putting in my order for an FJ this weekend. I do plan on getting the 6spd M/T.

Automatic 4WD & AWD can be driven on the highway. A part time 4WD must be put in 2WD for highway use, unless the highway is extremely slipppery, like snow or ice. Being a FL native I really can't address those bizarre conditions.

My same post from a different thread....My brother has an '05 V-8 4-runner with the full time 4wd. It is nice for snow, patchy snow (main roads plowed, side streets & parking areas not), pulling out into traffic in the rain or from loose gravel, steep driveways, pulling a boat up a ramp, and not fish-tailing when acclerating around a yield in the rain. I would almost consider it a safety feature. The same reason Subaru promotes it. If you are going off-road, lock the center diff.

I wish my tundra had the same 4x4 system. Pushing a button and hoping it clunks in or out always worries me. Not a good idea to use my 4x4 on wet pavement. I would sacrafice MPG and wear/tear for a full-time + locking option.
