Bought my Sun Fusion FJ two weeks ago and love it! As for the sun roof.....I believe it would compromise the crossbeams that run through the roof. This is why it is not being offered as an option. Hope that helps!
Im sure you could probably get one- but you would surely have to say bye-bye to the headliner speakers. Not a big deal IMO since there are plenty of places to put speakers, and both speakers and sunroof are relatively inexpensive aftermarket mods.
Yes, another place is CST, Classic Soft Trim. They are the ones who did the TRD Luxury Leather Package for the Ivan Stewart Tundras. Check out JBToy's sunroof and leather installed by CST.
No problem to install Hollandia 730 or the 500 (Grandview)
Just had the Grandview installed in Vancouver BC. Even though it is rather long, no cross beam was encountered. The one cross beam is located far back (in line with the back of the rear seat window). The trick (I was told) is that the frame of the sunroof should not be on top of a roof ridge but rather be at the bottom of the roof. If you check your FJ roof you'll see that this will translate into something of a max width (cut out) of appr. 31.5". That will give you either the Hollandia 730 or the 500. Both by Webasto. The 500 is however NOISY! The 730?
When I bought my new FJ on Tuesday (6-6-06!), I opted for the aftermarket sunroof as part of my purchase with the dealership. I'm supposed to be contacted for my installation appointment shortly, and will post photos to this anxiously-awaiting forum.
I have to admit, I'm a little apprehensive about this, but have been assured that the installers (Classic Soft Trim) are trained professionals, and that mine will not be the first FJ Cruiser they have worked on.
Just out of curiousity, I dropped by the Classic Soft Trim shop this morning that is supposed to install my new sunroof. I wanted to see examples of their work, and possibly have a look at the model that will be installed in my new FJ Cruiser.
Imagine how surprised I was when the somewhat surly employee at CST informed me that "you can't put a sunroof in an FJ Cruiser".
Now I have a voice message into the sales manager at Champion Toyota here in Austin, Texas, asking him to verify this, and, if it's true, to please refund my $1295 for the sunroof.
I wanted one but as the headliner is a speaker solid mounting it in the front would screw up your sound. But if you really wnat one go for it. Any auto glass shop should help you out.

I live in Parkland County, Alberta, Canada where off-roading starts at my front door. My first Non GM truck is a Toyota FJ Cruiser. I will be taking delivery of it in the third week of September 2006. My first 4X4 is/was a 1980 Chev Blazer bought off the lot. Installed a 3" lift kit and when the body rusted out...turned it into a 1958 Chevy Apachee short box pickup 8" lift. My other 4X4 is a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak 400 modified for deeper water and a front locker. I used to have a web site called albertarallies.com (Alberta ATV Site), closed it down when the hackers attacked it and it took too much time away from playing in the mud by fixing the hacks. I saw one in a VooDoo blue FJ at a local dealership here in No. California. They used a company by the name of "Dealerworks" in Ranhco Cordova, CA near Sacto. THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB, BUT A ROOF FOR THIS VEHICLE IS NOT HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED. tHE OVERALL STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE WILL BE JEPORDIZED.
hello members, maybe i can help shed a little light on the subject of a sunroof on this vehicle,i have been in the aftermarket industry for over 20 years and have installed powersunroofs in all shapes and sizes in that time, let me start by saying dealers know very little about the actual construction of a vehicle and what it takes to upfit a vehicle with an aftermarket product. the reason for this is simple, they leave the details to the experts like us. as they should. the concerns about ribs on the roof, structural integrity and rear speakers are genuine on this vehicle, let me try to help you understand this better, lets start with the structure issue, most vehicles have stamped steel cross bars under the headliner that aids in the roof stabilitly as well as rollover structure, when and if its nesecary to remove these pieces, that is where any concerns on this subject come into play, when you install an aftermarket internal sliding sunroof, this rigid type structure gets reintroduced into the vehicle as part of the sunroof substucture, in many cases adds more rigid structure back into the vehicle than it had before! the federal government will not let aftermarket companies manufacture this type of product unless it meets thier saftey standards.and installation companies have to comply with specific instllation practices. with that being said, when a company like ours decides to take on such a vehicle that has many questions reguarding such an installation, we have to do our homework before we cut a hole in the roof of a car.such as this particular vehicle,we install approximatly 100-125 power sunroofs each month so we know what we are doing! we are getting our first fj cruiser in, in about a week and have done some preliminary investigation and have found many shops have indeed installed them. so we are pretty confident its not an issue, however, we dont take anyones word for it! we will know next week just what it takes to do the job, getting on to the other issues, ribs on the roof is indeed a major concern as to which size and type of roof can be installed, the location of the ribs are a factor and have been on many vehicle for years and i personaly dont feel this is going to be a problemon the FJ, the only question on that issue is , what size roof will fit? we will let ya know shortly! and as for the speakers in the rear, well that becomes a headliner finishing issue and from what i can tell a creative installer should be able to handle that one, the installation facilities mentioned above (CST) have been around for many years and should have qualified installers that know how to install these roofs. as for us, we're near Milwaukee Wisconsin, so if you have questions, you can email me and if you would like us to install a sunroof let us know! we are more than happy to install one for ya! by the way! i think the fj is a pretty cool vehicle, great job toyota!
