Default Subwoofer Doesn't Seem to Do Much

Hi,

I just test drove an FJ Cruiser today, and tried the subwoofer with the on/off switch. It made almost no difference in the sound. It seems like the subwoofer is more marketing than function from what I could see. I noticed it is ported, but the box volume is way too small for porting to really work. Seems like the sub is a gimmick. Anyone else notice the lack of subwoofer function?

Michael

That's what I thought too. Then I tried turning it on and off when the sound was turned up REALLY loud. It works. But you've gotta be really crankin' that FJammer.

Maybe it was turned down. My tC had a subwoofer that was turned way down. When i popped off the cover i found a dial to turn it up. I guess they didnt want anyone to blow the speaker.

Have any of you guys removed the subwoffer for any reason? I am trying to install a trailer wiring harness and I need to get to the passenger taillamp access door - blocked by the sub. I could remove 2 bolts from the bottom, but the top is fastened in some way and I can't figure it out. Don't want to tear up a brand new car. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey - for what it is worth - mine also seems only to be active when real loud low bass is involved.

Thanks...

You've got that right! If its not loud, you're not going to apprciate the difference. Check this out. Put on the woofer, crank up the volume and watch the side mirrors vibrate to the bass. Then shut off the woofer and notice the difference.

Default Subwoofer removal

I'm curious, too, as to whether or how it's possible to remove the subwoofer. I don't need the brain-throbbing it gives to appreciate the bass; I'd rather have the storage space it blocks!

Thanks.

Hello, Did you get any replies on how to remove the subwoofer. I want to install taillight guards and I got to the same point as you in trying to remove the subwoofer. I'd appreciate any information. Thank you, Don

I think you have to take off the cover and there are two upper bolts that come off also.

I sold my sub to someone and got there parts to replace. So I now have another storage area. Don't miss the sub one bit.

Hi all, I'm about to buy a 07 Tacoma so I've been trying to learn about it. I don't know if I should get the jbl system or the standard one. Is it better to buy a third party system. If so then where and how do the different parts go. I also want it to have xm radio. I live in El Paso, TX but am going to Baton Rouge for the summer and will get the new tacoma there in about a week.

1. Below the sub is a cover panel, remove it with a flat head screw driver. You can see two small slots where the screw driver fits.

2. On each side of the plug there is two small screws, probably 10mm. Be careful these tiny things strip easy. You should unplug the white plug.

3. Remove the woofer cover, pull from the top

4. Remove the two screws in the round recesses.

5. You should be able to remove the subwoofer now. The administrator has disabled public write access.

I just got the 2010 FJ Cruiser with the subwoffer. It doesn't work and is a waste of space.
