1. Below the sub is a cover panel, remove it with a flat head screw driver. You can see two small slots where the screw driver fits.
2. On each side of the plug there is two small screws, probably 10mm. Be careful these tiny things strip easy. You should unplug the white plug.
3. Remove the woofer cover, pull from the top
4. Remove the two screws in the round recesses.
5. You should be able to remove the subwoofer now.

Hey - for what it is worth - mine also seems only to be active when real loud low bass is involved.
