There's not much out there to increase the power of the 4.0 just yet. URD racing has developed a supercharger but they have yet to release it. If your looking to get a few more ponies you could always look into a 50 shot of NOS. It wouldn't cost that much and would work fine with your internals.

I would reccomend getting your stock muffler taken off and having a new one like a flowmaster or maganaflow put on. Your local muffler shop could do this for around $200. It's not going to give you any real noticable power increase but it will sound better and increase your gas mileage. You could also get a set of headers but price + install might run you over $500.

thanks for the suggestions. i was talking to a buddy who use to be a mechanic at a ford dealerhsip and he said that if i got a piggyback system or super chip that would be sufficient. but does that put more wear and tear on the engine or parts, and does something else need to be added?

The parts on your truck should hold up especially if your only going to increase power by a few HP. The 4.0 engine is built strong just like the 3.5 and the 4.7 are.

On the idea about a superchip I'm not exactly sure if they even make something like that for your application. I would take a look at this website, they specialize in performance parts for Toyota trucks http://www.urdusa.com/ You could also go over to www.customtacos.com and look in there forum as alot of guys over there have the 4.0 in there tacomas and have tried out many of the performance mods for it.

The loss of power is fairly noticeable?? Due to the bigger tires. Regearing will cost quite a bit more than 500 bones though.Did it have decent power with the stock tires??
I am looking at updating my tundra....been eyeing up the FJ

There is another way to increase power. Since the FJ is considered an off-road vehicle, you could remove the pre-cat's comming off the manifold on each side, as well as all the cat's. Off-road vehicles are emission exempt in most states except states requiring Calif emissions.

As long as it's registered for off-road use. This doesn't mean you cannot use it on road, but the majority of the time would have to be off-road.

You can't remove any emission-related equipment in Arizona. The off-road plate is a little tag for ATV's and cycles. Incidentally, the power seems ample with the stock tires.

That same off-road tag can be used on any off-road vehicle. Check with your DMV. Most DMV's don't specifically secify that off-road is limited to ATV or cycles, though that is what most people register.
