FJ CruiserGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
This is a discussion thread titled "Where are they made?", within the FJ Cruiser forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Hamura is a suburb west of Tokyo, not far from where Honda CRV's are made. BTW Toyota assemblers still do calisthentics. . . American Toyota assemblers are no longer required to do calisthentics.
Toyota is building a new plant in North America every year, even have a large plant in Tijuana, Mexico now.
Notice in this PDF Toyota is saying that their were some Tundras made in Japan? noted by the " J " in the VIN # or is this not what it says? Vin # JT321 & JU321 would tell me that they were made in Japan but which Tundras they were is a mystery to me? The J pretty much tells its Country of origin no matter what Toy it is be it an FJ or any other Toy!

I'm no expert, on deciphering VIN codes, but as I understand it, the VDS# is the vehicles attributes and are numbers 4-8 on the VIN and has nothing to do with where the vehicle was built.
The 1st 3 numbers on the VIN is the WMI code and tells where the vehicle was built and by what manufacturer. So, if a Tundra was built in Japan the 1st 2 digits must be "JT" (Japan and Toyota)
What I'm saying is that the VIN codes on the PDF is incomplete. It only has 12 of the 17 numbes in a VIN code. It doesn't list the WMI numbers which tell you where the vehicle was built.
