Just back from a long weekend at the cottage, and filled up tonight with regular at 3537 km.
So far I've run only one tank of Premium, and got 23.38 MPG Canadian for that tank. I see the debate continues about what gas to use in other threads, but my dealer's salesmen ALL recommended using the #87.
This past tank, heading north, was #87, and it was all highway. I also tried to keep my foot out of it as much as possible, (since the speed limit there is 50 mph all the way- up Highways 10 and 6) for the most part exceeding 65 mph only twice. The results were the best I've had to date:
47.312 Litres for 443.4 km = 10.67 L/100 km, or 26.47 MPG Canadian, or 22.04 MPG US.
Several guys have said I won't get my 'good mileage' until at least the 10000-15000 km mark. Next time we make this cottage run I'll use #91, and try the same restrained approach to see what it'll do.
Overall, I'm still loving the FJ!
On good pavement it is the most comfortable vehicle to drive that I've owned in over 25 years. It is very quiet and smooth, and because the highway cruising range is below 2000 rpm up to 70 mph, there's little awarenness of your speed.
It IS susceptible to cross-winds at highway speeds, however. The (stock) night lighting is better than my last Blazer, but I'd like to bump the bulbs up a bit. The brakes are very strong.
There was a hint of snow coming home- I'm looking forward to testing it in the deep snow of the Bruce Peninsula this winter.
In my town there are several FJ's, but all weekend I saw only two- one on the highway, and my silver FJ's mate in Lion's Head.
