Is this a trick statement???? Or, are yu spreading a MYTH?? Yu are very confusing to those NOT in the know dude!!

50% regular + 50% premium does make MID GRADE....duh,no kidding... how do yu figure otherwise???????????????????? MID GRADE Is a Blend!!!

Alas, I will agree that mid grade sells the least. And, that gas will lose octane when it sits too long.

And , I feel it's premium or regular as a choice.

But these Toyota's will rarely ever ping because of lower octane regular, as long as it's fresh. If yu get knock or ping yu have other serious problems .

The knock sensors alter timing on these modern engines, retarding or advancing timing as needed to prevent knock.

Premium will enhance performance to varying degrees and give a slight increase in MPG!

But Regular will not damage these engines at all!

Experimenting will never hurt, and will help yu justify your choice of octane.

I purchased my Taco 7-1-2005. My truck has never seen 89 or 91 octane.
I average 21.2 mpg. If i jumped up to a higher octane what might I expect?

Thumbs down Re: Premium Gas

The Dealership I got my FJ from told me to use regular gas not premium, said some crap like; Toyota won't make cars that cost lots of money to drive. I did lots of research before I bought my FJ and I knew the specs said premium, so I was confused by what the Dealership said. Since my dealership is Hudson Toyota I couldn't trust what they said. I called up Toyota and asked, a woman answered and asked are you hearing any ping?, i said no, then she said it's fine as long as I don't have a problem. I also asked about the accessories for the FJ that never came out in the Summer, and she told me to call my dealership. A couple months ago on Toyota's web site I chatted with a toyota rep online, I told the rep what my dealership said and asked what kind of gas to use; she apoligized for the delership an said premium is the recomended gas. I've been using regular ever since i got my FJ in may 06 and it sounds like my old 03 Wrangler Rubicon with over 60,000 miles, is that good? I don't know It's my first new car. A car maker should know more about their car than the dealership.

I started out using premuim, then switched to 89 octane after doing a little research. I've never heard any pinging, and the performance seems about the same. My mileage sucked with both premium and regular, but after 10,000 miles it seems to be improving. I actually got over 20 mpg the other day on the highway, after initially getting about 14-17 mpg city/hwy.
