FJ CruiserGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
This is a discussion thread titled "Black FJ", within the FJ Cruiser forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Tried to talk the wife into a new FJ but she didnt care too much for it, she did want a black suv and said the black FJ looked like a skunk, has any one else noticed this ? I mean no offense to anyone, if I didnt need a pick up I would have one.

I heard the dealer will paint the top for like $7k...No really. A dealer actually tried to convince me they were doing this. I am pretty sure you can get it painted just as good at a local auto paint shop for alot cheaper...just an idea.
While acknowledging Toyota's 'tribute to tradition' with the white top, styling-wise, it is still the weakest attribute of the FJ's look. If a solid colour had been an option I'd have taken it for sure.
As it was, we picked the titanium, because the white roof is least noticeable in that colour.
The new TRD black looks great!

I went for the titanium as well. I liked the least contrast possible, but the all Black TRD edition rules. I guess the white top serves the function of keeping the interior cooler as well. I think all us FJ owners still have one heck of a cool looking ride either way!

My wife initially said, "Never make me be seen in that thing." However, once you're inside and drive it around a bit then jump in whatever black SUV you want to compare it to...I think you'll both make the right decision.
We have affectionately referred to our B&W FJ as "The Skunk" since the moment we drove it off the lot last May. We were going to get plates that read SKUNK but were afraid it might cause us to get pulled over because of the police thinking it was in reference to pot of the same name.
We had a choice between Yellow and Black... and having been long time drivers of black cars, and no longer in our "twenties", decided to go black.
My wife loves the FJ -- no matter what the color, and I have to fight her for the keys all the time. :-)
Being in Las Vegas the white roof is a blessing on all our 100+ degree days.
I'm trying to talk my wife into one of these too. I will probably go with black too. I like the idea of a blacktop, but I think I like the white better.
I got the black with the white roof. Kinda like it. I've been told the blue looks like a port-a-potie, the ones that you would see in a construction site. Think I'll stick with the Black.
I Have a Black One. I like to think of it as my Ready for Whatever Tuxedo! This Truck is Awesome. Finally Toyota makes a vehicle that dares to be Different. WhateverColoryouchoose it looks Great!

Black looks good on any vehicles. I don't have an FJ, although, it is my second vehicle of choice from Toyota. I went with the new 07' Tundra Crewmax in all black TRD edition. I love the TRD FJ Cruiser. But then again, you have to understand about the "skunk" look, it is what it is. It is tradition with white roof. Never break a tradition. You wouldn't change Santa Clauses' outfit with blue and white , wouldn't you? lol
