FJ CruiserGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sunroof Is In Pics", within the FJ Cruiser forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
okay, I think my pics are just too big, and I don't know how to downsize them. I'll email the pics to anyone who wants them and then if they know how, they can post them up here also.

It is a Hollania Webasto 740 I believe. It is the "bigger" size. I think they have a 730, and a 740. It is fully functional and opens just like a factory roof.
No there isn't a factory option, that's why we were all interested in the aftermarket. Yes, it drops down and opens by sliding in between the headliner and the roof. It is just like a factory install, and yes it also tilts up and has an automatic pop up type windvisor. It also has a rain sensor so that if its open and it begins to rain, it automatically closes.
My compliments to the installer. It looks terrific. I have been wanting one for my '01 Tundra AC but have been hesitant to let someone cut into the sheetmetal for fear of a sloppy install and having to live with it. Does it have the drain tubes like a conventional sunroof and have you had any leaks? What about warranty of parts and workmanship?
I visited the local Webasto dealer, Alabama Auto Top Specialists about a week ago. After I saw what a modern, professional shop and staff they had (the owner actually gave me a personal tour of the shop and showed me a sunroof actually being installed in a Chevy Trailblazer) I felt confident that they could do the install. I got the truck Thursday afternoon and all I can say is WOW! The roof is inbilt and operates just like a factory roof. It will open all the way or part way, has tilt feature with sunshade and the control switch is mounted on the overhead console. Also has a wind deflector like factory units and a water management system (drain tubes to carry away any seepage that might get past the exterior seal. Lifetime warranty to original owner on the complete sunroof assembly and 36 months on labor. They actually put in a new headliner so that all fabric overhead matches the original perfectly. All in all I am very well pleased with it. I wish I had done it sooner. See attached photos. Hope I uploaded them correctly.

Reason: Had Sunroof Installed
it does have drain tubes and and It's been raining and snowing here for the past 25 days, and not a leak. I have a 5 year warranty on the parts and lifetime warranty on all labor. It is a webasto Hollandia sunroof. They supply almost 80% of all sunroofs in the world to most major manufacturers, so I'm not worried. The only key is to find a very reputable installer. The company I used was recommended by several different dealerships here, and since I have a few exotic cars, and a good relationship with our exotic dealerships I felt comfortable going with who they recommended. The co. that did my sunroof on the FJ has been in business for over 15 years here in Columbus
Sunroofs are not offered in the FJ, because they state that it would interfere with the sound quality of the speakers. I know it sounds crazy but this is what I was told when I was in the New Model Toyota class when the FJ's came out
"Toyota does not offer a sunroof of any kind. This is due in large part to the truck's innovative sound system, which utilizes the headliner as a mounting point for speakers." - roadfly.com

Maybe that's a statement for the automotive press. But yu and I know better. No sunroof at the sacrifice of speakers? Come on!
There is a real reason. And probably a production design reason(innovative Blunder I feel.) other than that stated .
The sound system might be innovative(but not high end for sure), but at the sacrifice of a sunroof option. So innovative that a roof is not going to work?
from what i've heard, the headliner helps to resisinate (sp?) the sound better. This is what I was told by the region office so we just don't mess with them
