We picked up an 08 Sandstorm around Christmas and have found two chips already as well! One of them was actually in the black "sticker" they put on the door pillars, our dealer has ordered a new sticker kit for it and it is going in next week to get replaced. I will ask them about the paint chips and see what they say.
from what I gather it's the new water based, EPA mndated, paint. Although I hear other manufacturers are using this and don't have this issue so that tells me it's a Toyota issue. Haven't heard much else besides what's on this board so my view is most likely biased.

They need to make their vehicles like the old Delorens then, out of brushed stainless steel. They need to get back to the future.
My FJ is turning into the blue and white speckled egg. The dealership washed their hands of the problem stating it was just normal rock chips. Well, after logging millions of miles on several different brands of cars and trucks, this is the first one I've ever seen like this.
I called the Toyota Customer Experince Center and received a case number. I was instructed to leave it to the dealship for the District Operations Manager (DOM) to come look at it. I requested to be there when the DOM came by but the service manager said he didn't know when the DOM would be there and it wasn't his job to meet with customers. When I dropped off the FJ, I went around it pointing out the missing paint, including the ones inside the door, all the while some guy was taking notes as to their locations.
Well the DOM came and went, stating it was just normal rock chips. I asked if he explained how I got rock chips down the side and INSIDE the door. The reply from the dealership was didn't know if he saw those.
I call the Toyota Custom Experince Center back and they said as far as they were concerned the case was closed!
Has anyone had a positive out come with this problem or did we all purchasing automobiles that will be a big hit at easter. You know, the spickled eggmobile.

What complete BS man. Toyota is ruining their name! "Built by the company famous for doing things right" That's pretty darn close to the line in a new Tundra commercial. I wouldn't call the paint issue and the lack of customer service "doing things right" in the slightest. I'll keep my 03 with 76k on it thanks Toyota. Thanks for absolutely ruining the perfect chance the do the right thing, to make a good impression, to build faith in your product. THanks for completely letting this guys' issue go through the cracks in the corporate red tape.
I am so disappointed in Toyota. An old 444 Powerstroke sounds real good about now.

[quote=taberdeb;930519]I'm a little relieved its not just mine, I have a 2007 Black Cherry FJ and we just noticed many chips around the windshield, hood and both sides, everyday there seems to be more appearing. We plan to register a complaint with Toyota and fight like crazy to get this resolved

I have 3,000 miles on my Voo Doo Blue 2008 FJ and it has paint chips on all four sides and the dealer tried to tell me it was rock chips but how the hell can it be on all four sides ?
Does anyone have any suggestion that will get Toyota to fix my FJ and anyone else's that has this same problem ?

Could it be a case of subtle vandalism? I know it sounds strange but 2 of my former Toyota trucks were repeatedly vandalized to make it look like rock chips on ALL four sides. I even found dents on the top of the bed rails, and tiny microscopic designs etched and chipped into the paint. Very strange, but all it would take is a knife or screwdriver, walked slowly around the vehicle jabbing quickly and seemingly at random, at night or when no one is looking. There are crazy people who do these things for fun, to make people upset and get a reaction.

I have four cars and the only one that has paint chips is my brand new Toyota FJ Cruiser that has less than 3,000. miles.
I took it back to the dealership and they blaimed it on rock chips.
the paint chips are on the front, both sides and the back, how can it be rock chips ?
