Default FJ 6" Pro Comp Lift

I just finished installing the Pro Comp 6" lift on a 2007 FJ.
It is almost like the Tacoma lift. Very well engineered, clean and not that hard to install.
I will post pics as soon as I can get them into the computer.

The only reason I would cut my truck up for a 6 inch lift is to put 35"s on it and drive around the street. This lift is not gonna help you offroad, compared to a 3" suspension lift it will be more likely to tip and looses flex....Buuuuut with 35s on there it will LOOK cool

Your right tho, not matter what it looks cool with 35's

The owner does alot of offroading and SHE loves it, and is not afraid to use it.

It wont loose flex, there are 2 bars that connect the rear crossmember to the trans crossmember. It is a very solid kit. It uses the stock shocks, so it maintains the stock ride quality, or you can also opt for the coilover kit.

This does not look like the stock shock....

If your installing that system you obviously know a lot more about suspension than me but I have always read negative feedback on the 6" diff drop lifts of this type, but who knows...

Your right, this is the OPTIONAL Coilover package that is preset at PRO COMP.
Curious about the negative feedback. This kit drops the diff so it stays in the proper location for CV and axle location and angles. The kit also slightly rotates the front and rear diffs to keep driveline angle to a minimum.
This kit also allows this vehicle to be aligned to factory specs.

I do agree, if I were a HARDCORE OFFROADER. I would have opt'd for a DONAHOE/FABTECH Q-LOGIC or Camburg 2 1/2" set up. Those kits ride a bit harsher on the street, but rock off-road. They are all Great kits.

Here is an excerpt from another threadsfrom a few wise, and experienced person in the industry...

Drop bracket kits lower the bump tabs that the bumps stops on the LCA meet, effectively limiting uptravel. I suspect this helps alleviate the concern of coils hitting the UCA, but I'm not real conviced that is the real story.

What I do know is that if you raise a vehicle and correspondingly limit it's suspension travel, you have two complimentary means of increasiing tippyness, all rolled into one convenient package.

So far, none of the drop-bracket touts will directly address this design characteristic... I have publicly asked them.

2. Breakover angle is increased- this is false. To prevent the rearward collapse of the drop brackets, they have two supports that brace it off the trans crossmember. These not only hugely decrease clearance, they are as frail as the rear links on the FJC and cannot stand up to serious impacts on rocks. What is worse is that if they are impacted, there is a very real possibility they will cause movement in the drop brackets, possibly affecting LCA & steering.

Good points, but like I said.
If I were a HARDCORE OFFROADER. I would have opt'd for a DONAHOE/FABTECH Q-LOGIC or Camburg 2 1/2" coil over set up. Those kits ride a bit harsher on the street, but rock off-road. The harder you drive them the softer they ride. They are all Great kits. The coil over kits also change all the alignment angles more so than the 6" lifts, and it is alot harder to align these vehicles to stock specs.
Even with the coil over on any kit, part of the limiting factor is the stock upper control arm and ball joint. The UNIBALL Control arm (camburg or Total Kaos) takes care of this problem. Most people dont do this due to $$$$.
Any serious offroader would have LIMIT STRAPS and /or hydraulic bump stops.

How can the support rods reduce clearance, they sit up higher than the front crossmembers? Those tubes are chrome moly, I think they are togher than anyone thinks, but any big rocks will cause damage to just about anything under the vehicle, thats why they have skid plates and sliders.
The rear trailing arms have always been frail on just about all the Toyotas that have them, but if your into that serious off an offraod adventure, custom ones would be in order, along with many other custom parts.
If someone is that worried about the 6" lift, I'd advise them to make their own suspension system and do better, mass produce it and keep the cost competitive.
The quote you posted, they are probably correct in many ways, but doesnt really affect most of the people I deal with. All The kits could be a big liability, I think they have all been thought out and planned well to reduce anything that may cause an issue, opening them up for a lawsuit. If you push any vehicle to hard your going to have issues one way or another, unless it is specifically setup for that intended use, and even then any big rock can ruin your day.

This kit is for the part time outdoor adventurer, that is functional off road and fun on the street. It is not meant to run the BAJA 1000 or to rock climb in MOAB.

Some of the 6" kits tell you in the instructions not to go over 50mph off road in 4wd unless you change some other pieces. If people need to offroad that hard, they are fools anyways for doing it in a street vehicle and not a seriously setup offroad vehicle.\

Have a great weekend
