This is a discussion thread titled "does dual exhaust improve gas mileage?", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hello, I am the proud new owner of a 2006 Toyota Tundra (4x4, double cab). I found the truck to be perfect for my needs, except the one I ended up getting has a dual exhaust system. I initially did not like this because of the noise it made and planned on having it converted to stock/standard exhaust. However, I have found that I am getting about 24 MPG highway/interstate, which is well above the 18 MPG listed with this model. Here's my question: what are peoples' opinions on whether or not dual exhaust significantly improves gas mileage? I was pleasantly surprised when finding that my Tundra was getting such good gas mileage, but don't know if I should attribute it to the dual exhaust or some other factor. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
Theoritically will it help: No.
Scientifically will it help: Time to experiment.
My honest opinion: Your fuel economy depends on your foot. Getting a dual exhaust, you'll want to hear your truck rumble, and that means your foot will be more to the floor. Just a hunch. FWIW, I have never officially read someone gaining fuel economy by only switching their exhaust.

I would say if you are getting 24mpg with a 4x4 ,I wouldn't change anything .
