Well, the truck finally showed up at the dealer a couple of days ago, so I went in hoping for the best since I really liked everything else on the truck, just didn't know much about the exhaust.

The TRD's were a bit louder than I was expecting when I first fired it up in the dealers indoor delivery area, sounded like some of the factory muscle cars from my youth (60's, 70's). No engine clatter or piston slap a few owners have reported, just a nice rumble at fast idle.

Once out on the road the TRD's really get your attention anytime your foot is in the throttle, I would consider them loud compared to the stock system. At light or no throttle at highway speeds you can just barely hear the exhaust, but if you are towing or hauling a load I could imagine drone being an issue for some of us.

So as I was test driving the beast I thought to myself "oh crap, this thing is just to loud, now I'll never find another 07 with nav". So I asked the wife who was in the passenger seat what she thought and she smiled and said "I love it!", shocked the hell out of me.

To shorten the story up, the trucks in the driveway and I like the TRD's better everyday. Sometimes I turn the radio off just to listen to them . As a bonus they sure look great too.

Glad ya and er indoors like it

Just got mine finished and on and it's an addictive noise.

I have had flowmasters and borlas on trucks before but they were alost abit 'Hooligan-ish'.

The TRD is much more like the SC Harley I had with duals yet better.

More like a 'racing rumble that means business but does not bite the occupants'

Guys, I have been tossing this one around ever since before I bought my 07 in July. For $1065 window sticker I wasn't convinced. I have taken test drives with TRDs at least 6 separate times the last time with the kids in the car and the consensus was it would be a waste of money given the difference in sound which I can clearly say is a bit dissapointing. Don't get me wrong I don't want a blaster just some mellow deep tones that give justice to a 381 Hp V8. the stock system does growl at times but without question I think it is a little too mild, it is just that the TRD doesn't seem to pack as much punch as is indicated here. I ran with the radio on, radio off, in a tunnel, highway speed searching for a drone 9there was none), etc... and felt that TRD left a little too much on the table. I am sold on the look of duals exiting out both sides and not straight back, and I do love the look of the oval TRD tips with laser engraved TRD - very nice! I think the overall sound difference is less than you would think becasue the muffler is exactly the same they just cut two differnt exit ports on the back flange. take a look under your truck and you can see where they designed it for this felexibility -and of course cost savings. I am thinking Borla based upon all the strings i have read but would be bummed if the sound were too loud, and the price really has me hessitating on pulling the trigger. I have a few other mods on my mind including a spray in liner, probably a Cold Air intake, and the exhaust. It looks like the TRDUSA site does make mention to a supercharger for the 5.7L - which makes me take notice but they go for more than $4k, so it would be a couple of years before i would consider that seriously. Anyone out there interested in a group buy for the Borla dual system? With a discount it should be is close to the list price for the TRD.

This is one thing none of us know for sure, I have not seen a cut open view of the muffler on the TRD. I have no idea if it is one chamber or two. I also have no idea what the single look like opened up. Anyone?

I myself bought it for the 'understated' rumble AND the fact I am fitting the TRD CAI (and hopefully the Supercharger when avail.) and expect them to work better in unison. If NOT doing the 'whole mod' as it where, i.e. exhaust alone, then it is abit costly and a fab shop can do it cheaper. Although the fit/finish of the TRD is superb!

The TRD muffler is not the same as the stock muffler. Stock muffler is a chambered muffler and changes the direction of exhaust gases back and forth several times before exiting. The TRD muffler is a straight through muffler and has stainless steel wool packing inside. The same outer muffler shell was used by Tenneco on both mufflers. I was in contact the the person in charge of the development of the TRD.

Thanks, blackbeauty. I was going to throw a tape measure on both of them today, If for nothing more than to see if they are the exact same size, I think they won't be.

No hooligan redneck nastiness, ALL 'I mean bussiness' rumble.
CAI due here tomorrow (does FedEx deliver on Columbus day? Not being a natrual American I dunno) and then we will see if the two gel like fraternal brothers and unleash da beast

I had custom Flowmaster 70's installed. 2 in and 2 out from under the bumper.

Tundra is still quiet, but rumbles and sound like a mean SOB under load.
I would recommend it to anyone.. and less than 1/2 the price.

BTW: I read the same thing. that the TRD is the same stock muffler with a little
redesign with 2 exits.. Believe me you are paying a premium for the TRD label
which no one see's..

Ya pays ya money and takes ya choice.
I drink my morning coffee from a machine at the house, straight black, but many go to Starbucks and spend bout $4 on a low fat, decaf, latte, mocha choker bend over etc. Who is right? Are they both not coffee?
