This is a discussion thread titled "Which Exhaust For Me", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hey, this is my first post here. I just picked up my 07 Tundra a couple of weeks ago. I want to get an aftermarket exhaust put on, but I want to be sure of a few things.
I use this truck everyday to haul my landscape trailer for my business. The exhaust cannot be really loud and unprofessional. I just want something that sounds good that will not bother my customers or myself at highway speeds.
Also, I want something that will NOT rust. I hate the look of rusted aftermarket exhaust.
I really don't want to have to spend like $1000 on this if I don't have to. Any help appreciated.

I think you'd enjoy mine without much doubt but it was custom made at a local muffler shop. Cost was about $240 but about $300 with the polished flared outlets. It was a pair of 2.25" leads from the cats on each manifold at the bolt section to the Dual in Dual out sport muffler. The muffler is like a common medium sized magnaflow/dynamax/flowmaster V style sound canceling muffler, pretty common but actually effective. Forget recommendation to run straight through mufflers like glasspack style mufflers. After the Dual in Dual out muffler is two leads of 2.25" all the way to the back. Care to have it exit any way you want. I had mine shoot straight out the back requiring the driver's side to make a few turns before lining up in the back besides the passenger side which almost used Toyota's guidelines except that last turn to the side is straightened out. To avoid rust and have a long term system you'll have to ask if they use Aluminized steel piping like my shop only deals. I believe that is pretty common and last several times as long generally speaking.
It's very quiet at idle, in fact you wouldn't know it even with the windows down if you hadn't had your tundra for a while. Windows up or down you can hear it but it's miles from unprofessional. At the drag strip when I went recently friends said they couldn't even hear my pickup and I was drag racing next to a stock Crown Victoria cop car which couldn't cover much up. The distance from the closest observation seats to the track was enough that I was completely stealth over the very small crowd that day.

Get the magnaflow catback system with the single out set-up. I have the dual in single out 18" muffler and it sounds great, but it's not too loud or teenage sounding. And magnaflows are all stainless so they won't rust. Their cat back is under $400 i believe and you can easily install it yourself.

Thanks for the replies. I have been reading online about aftermarket exhaust and it says that you want to get them as close as possible to the factory setup or you run the risk of robbing power instead of gaining. A dual setup would obviously be nothing like factory, is this why you suggest and single out?
This will be the first time I have had anything like this done. I was to busy spending money on factory parts for my Chevy just to keep it running, let alone hop ups.
My SR5 came with dealer installed Borla Dual Cat backs. It sounds very smooth and throaty. Not too loud and rumbly. Stainless including polished tips that exit just under the rear bumper.
I am very very pleased, especially since it wasn't an option I would have picked to pay an extra grand for. Glad I got it this way.
Good luck on your search. What ever system you buy check out on line ordering. Save you on taxes. Champion Toyota and Sparks Toyota have on line discounts. I think champion offer Tundra solutions members %25 discount as well. Turns $1K into $750 pretty quick eh?
Yeah Borla makes a real good system. I opted to go with a JBA system and Ive been very pleased. Its only a little louder than stock and when you are cruisng you cant even hear it. In your case towing a trailer I imagine it would be a little louder due to the load on the engine but I cant ever seeing the JBA system being to loud for anyone.
I went with Magnaflow; I had a Gibson on my 05 Expedition and it was fine; I had Borla on my Mustangs and loved it but almost $1K for a truck exhuast from Borla vs under $400 shipped for the Magna's were what made my mind up for me...I was told at the dealership that Gibson manufactures the TRD exhaust.
So is it better to order one of these exhaust systems online and have a local muffler shop put it on, or just let them find one for me? I don't know how difficult it would be to do myself. I cam't imagine it would be very hard, but I don't have any special equipment to bend pipes etc. if I need to.
Any good sites you guys know of to order from?
Thanks...

Trust me this is one of the easiest installs to do...I was done in under an hour...if you have some mech skills you can do it yourself and save a lot of money...no need to take it to a shop to do..
So are most of the kits direct bolt on, no mods needed? Should I purchase it online or get it from a local place so I can see what I'm getting?
Any good places online? Thanks a lot.
Yes all of the cat-backs will be a direct bolt on. Well, with my JBA I had to take 20 inches off one pipe but other than that it bolted up perfectly. You can install a exhaust on these trucks very easily on your back in your driveway.
It will be alot cheaper to purchase online and have it shipped to you. That way you dont have to pay sales tax. Most local shops have a little mark up plus you pay sales tax. Check with all of the site sponsors on here about exhausts or alot of us on here have used ebay with great results.
Tell us which exhaust you want and we will point you in the right direction . Different sites for different companies.

I guess now it's up to me to decide which one I want. I will post back shortly.

Whoever told you that Gibson makes the TRD Exhaust is mistaken.
