Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Should I get TRD exhaust ?", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My 2003 is getting loud, looked underneath and there is plenty of rusted pipes and the muffler is rusting where the pipes are going in/out, which is what happend normaly.
Does it worth to get the TRD exhaust? Cheapest I have seen is $699 on the web.
$699 is very very steep. i wouldn't even consider it. i would probably just have my exhaust re-done in the stock form and maybe throw in an after market muffler if you want some sound.
Your exhaust must have already been changed from factory because it was originally stainless steel. You have some options here, but you will probably be happiest with a stock exhaust. It is quieter with no drone , gives better low end torque than any dual system and will last a long long time. It might be worth putting a wanted ad in the classifieds here on TS. You might find just what you are looking for at a very reasonable price.

I have stock exhaust now (I don't think it is stainless), was just wondering what the TRD will get me, if anything.
Stock exhaust from the very first Tundra made in late 1999 to date has been stainless steel from the outlet on the manifolds to the exhaust tip. If your exhaust is stock, it's stainless. It may not look like it because of dirt, grease and general buildup of gunk. Also remember even stainless can rust and corrode over time depending on the actual kind of stainless it is. I am not sure of the exact alloy of stainless that we have, but stock is stainless. Take a wire brush to it and I think you will find some nice metal down there.
The TRD exhaust sounds really good, but I have heard mixed reviews from great to hate it. I think a lot of the great is when they first get it and love the growl, but the hate it crowd are the same guys after they get sick and tired of the highway speed drone. I drove one just like mine with the TRD exhaust and that convinced me right away, I will stick with the stock and change just the muffler which I promptly changed to a stainless Magnaflow. It added just a very slight growl and I suffer from no drone at all.

I don't understand why your exhaust would rust. I mean unless you park your truck in the ocean or something. I would go to a exhaust shop nearby and get an estimate on a replaced system. You can even buy the muffler and cats yourself if you like.

Some decal work done.
Hope to have UD pulley soon
Its rusting, always parked outside in the North East and it is getting louder, RPM does not seem to affect the drone it is loud at a certain point of pressing the accelerator. I rather have more torque the HP since that will get you off the line not the HP. I also have a muscle car with a 455 V8 with dual exhaust, so noise not new to me
Sounds like I will wait to see what happens over the winter and just get an OEM type of muffler. Maybe just the resonator is rusted on the inside?
I have it on my '01. Pros: 1) There is no drone at highway speeds like some of the other aftermarket systems. 2) Sounds great, not to loud, you really only notice it when you get on the gas. 3) Looks cool. Cons: 1) No real change in performance, actually you loose a little on the low end. 2)Expensive. 3) If you want loud exhaust, not the way to go.
I bought the TRD because my buddy used to work for Toyota Financial Services and was able to get me a great deal. If I had to do it over and couldn't get a deal on the TRD, I would just change out the muffler and the tip.

If you're still considering TRD or not - I just put mine up for sell on ebay... I bought an Ivan Stewart new and took off the exhaust after about 15K - wanted something different... Let me know if you're interested or anybody else and I'll forward you the link.
