Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Best Intake for the 5.7 Tundra", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
About to bite the bullet soon on an 08 5.7 Tundra double cab, first mod I want to do is an intake. With so many available to choose from right now, and every manufacturer claiming theirs is the best I'm kinda confused. Which is arguably the best one on the market for the most useable power?
TRD
K&N
Airaid
AFe
Volant
Other
I think the only 13 second Tundra right now is running the Volant intake so I'm leaning a bit to that one.. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I think TRD would be the best one to go with anditsound good a lotof people on hear have them and they are happy forthe most part.
thanks for the reply jbk23, I really like the TRD also because its almost factory looking and fit and finish should be excellent. Also had great experience with TRD parts on my 03 Celica GT-S.
I put in the K@N , couldn't be happier. Sounds great and there is some noticable power difference when you stomp on it. No cutting the engine cover, very easy install. I gotta think they all perform about the same, it really comes down to price and personal preference. With this much horespower, a 1-3 gain/loss difference just doesn't make that much difference.
i have been shopping for an intake also and i heard from a few people that they lost fuel milage when they put their intake on becaust the computer does not self tune itself to the change.... i found this as a suprise since my tacoma had an airaid intake on it and i gained 1 mpg and a big power increase for the money... has anyone else notticed a difference in milage since the swap

Wait for SEMA like everyone else is saying, I can tell you performance wise the Volant intake alone will give you about 2 tenths off the quarter. The sound is quite at lower rpms but once you put your foot in it it screams at ya. Make sure you get an exhaust system to go with it for full potential.

What about loss in MPG? It doesn't seem right, but I have seen that on here in some locations.
My vote's for the Volant. I had the Airaid and it was too loud, so I swapped it for the marginally quieter Volant. Good power, perfect sound and it has the phenomenal PowerCore Filter which is oil free and has a stated maintanence interval of 100,000 miles (although I'd never leave a filter on that long).
