Default Exhaust question

I just wanted to see what my exhaust would sound like if I unhooked the exhaust before the muffler. There was 4 bolts (2 on each pipe) and from what it seems, there is a resonator and a cat on both sides, than it dumps after the cats. It sounds pretty good and it wasnt as loud or nasty as I was expecting. Will this give me any extra hp and/or tq? or will it loose power
thanks

I answered your question...don't mess with it. Leave it alone, or you may end up like this dummy.

Toyota designed the exhaust system for maximum efficiency. If you read countless threads on this forum, they all say the same thing; You get nothing but noise from any exhaust modification.

I've already read some forums, and that's not what all of them say. your right, they might have built it for effciency, (just like the intake) which means they aren't built for power. so replacing them should add hp/tq.

Okay...so let me see if I get all of this...

You are going to ask as question. You already have it in your head what you want to hear. Someone who has had numerous discussions about this in the past gives you an answer, but it is not what you want to hear, so you do not care to listen.

So why did you ask the question, when you already think you know more than everyone else?

All I want to know is if it adds any power, or if it doesn't add any power. Because since there is not a muffler, there's alot less back pressure, so I could be loosing some low end tq, but it still hase cats, and resonators so I don't know, thats why im asking.

Good question. I would guess you would lose hp/tq but thats just an opinion.

Here is my take on it. If you can't feel a difference in it, why leave it that way. To me, If I did what you did, and did not notice a huge improvement, I would bolt it back on. Even if there were gains on a Dyno it wouldnt be worth it to me unless I felt it.

Sort of like a real sharp parts man we had used to say to certain people, "Do you want the part you're ask'in for, or you want the part you need?"

GGWOODY will become famous soon enough.
Default Re: Exhaust question

you might lose some low-end torque, but like you said the cats and resonators are on there...prob improve the midrange a nominal amount, and you might gain a couple of HP....just speculation. :?

BTW guys...he asked a specific question for his specific situation, in a specific thread....redirecting him to a thread that was off of his topic and suggesting that the answer to the question he didn't ask was in there is stupid and pointless. so just give the guy a break...it's an easy answer from the right person.

Get yourself a GTech Pro and do some testing to find out what works and what doesn't. When you find out, you will be able to report back with facts/proof rather than relying someones opinion(s).
