Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Volant Exhaust Installed!", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I got a smokin deal on a Volant Exhaust that I could not refuse. Only problem is that it came off a Double Cab and I have a RCSB!!!!!! So here we go
TOOLS NEEDED: -3/8" ratchet
-12 & 14 mm 6pt deep sockets
-Long flat blade screwdriver
-White lithium grease(optional but helpful)
-Cutoff tool
-Tape measure
-Blanket
-Sharpie
-Adj wrench
All work was done with the vehicle on the ground. No jack or removal of anything else was necessary
PROCEDURE:
Starting in the middle of the stock catback, loosen the clamp using 12 mm socket and wrench
Remove the hanger by spraying the rubber donut with white grease and pushing off with screwdriver(same for all hangers)
Remove rearmost section of the exhaust.
Loosen for bolts holding the rest of the catback using 14mm socket then remove muffler from the hangers.
Starting on the new system, I went ahead and cut the hangers off the two pipes that go into the muffler because I know I will have to relocate them anyway.
Now break out the blanket because you don't want to scratch this purdy new exhaust. Hang the Volant muffler in place and loosely mock up everything back to the tail pipe.
Here's where you need to have some patience because if you cut it wrong it's worthless.Measure the distance of the space between the muffler and where the straight pipe should bolt to the factory stuff. Now hold the straight pipe as close as you can in place and mark where you think you should cut. These measurements should be within ~1/4" of each other. If not start over.
Now carefully cutoff this section. I used a dremel because it is all I have here. I cut off 19.5"
You will want to cut the exact same amount off of the other pipe to ensure they will be even. If your first cut is correct, there is no need to mock up the second curved pipe. I cut 19.5" off of the curved pipe. Be sure to smooth and deburr all the cut edges.
Now your ready to install this beast! Start closest to the factory stuff and work your way back. Pretty straighforward.
I think the whole thing took about two hours start to finish. It sounds great! It's not too loud and idles just a little louder than stock. Nice deep grumble and not raspy at all. As far as what everyone calls drone.....I don't know I didn't notice any, but I still need to do some more driving. I'm on the way to the exhaust shop to get the hangers welded back on.
As far as fit and finish, this sytem is absolutley top notch. The full polish really looks nice and everything fit together great. It kills me that the engineers at the company couldn't take the extra time to design it for the RCSB since it is so easy to do so. Oh well, atleast I didn't end up with an expensive paper weight.
VERY nice installation. Great pics. Good job thanks.

How do I do a sound clip????? I don't mind, I just don't know how.
When I did mine, I left my back window slid open on some of them (that will be the loudest I believe). Then I just did acceleration. I've had a lot of time so I've done 20 roll, drop a stop, and I've done tunnels, and even a flyby all from inside the cab.
I upload all my pics and vids on photobucket as I think it's easier than messing around with this. If you need any help you can PM me or just leave questions here.
I hope you got that CHINA made exhaust for very little money.....
Why would that matter? It was engineered in the U.S. and the fit and finish is 10 out of 10. It's fully TIG welded and could be right at home on a show vehicle. But if it helps you sleep better, I did get it for little money
Ok I tried to make a sound clip. If it doesn't work I'll try again tomorrow. I tried to do it in stages
Idle
2,000 RPM
3,000 RPM
4,000 RPM
5,000 RPM
Bounce off the limiter
good grief dude, you were making me nervous with that sound clip sound good but a few revs will do
Haha I don't know what it is but the more I rev it the crazier I feel. If my neighbors had any question to what I was doing this morning they damn sure know now.
I did not make it to the welder today, but I drove it around town and in the parking garage on campus. Tim Taylor would be proud
