of course you know that any thing you do before the last cat is against federal law. in some parts of Calif, after the first 5 yrs we have to have the emissions tested every two years. they do a visual inspection, test the gas cap for vacuum and pressure(if you do not tighten the gas cap it will turn on a code light and set the code in the computer so you have to have it cleared before they will do the test.) then they put your car/truck on dyno rollers and do a exhaust emissions test at low speed and 45 mph under load. don't pass - can't regester the vehicle. if you put on a cut out it might as well be before the first cat to relieve the most back pressure.

Drill some 3/4" holes in your airbox while you're at it.

You'll lose torque and add some power way up top as well as a whole hell of a lot of noise.

I am a big fan of noise. I am from Kentucky and we dont have emissions test here and I am trying to get the most out of these trucks. Plus when you have a dyno in your back yard you like to try things. I have had many camaros and cutouts were always one way to get a little more for the money. I want to see just how fast I can get in the quater mile before I go with the nitrous and so on. I already have a hooker exhaust and going with the K&N Intake and throttlebody spacer. I am working on a few other things as well. I am just one of those guys who is on the performance end of things. I want to be the first double cab in the low 13s if possible. So any help is greatly needed.

You need to have some kind of backpressure on these engines otherwise you are going to have problems. Just go with a custom exhaust and high flow mufflers. I did and it makes more noise and I got a performance increase and still kept my factory warranty. I also have a CAI and TBS. Just a thought, especiaaly since Toyota is so proud of their repair dept. and hourly rate.

I think cutouts are great but I think they should be used with forced induction and/or high horsepower motors. I think it just may be overkill for a Tundra.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but you probably just won't get as good of results as you may have seen in the past with your camaro's.

If, or when, they make a higher stall converter that would also help, otherwise you'll just bog off the line, especially with the lack of back pressure caused by the cutouts.
