Jeez guys, give Nick a break. He gave us explanations and set up a group buy for TS members... what more are we looking for?
If anyone wants to pony up for the dyno time, I'll go do a before/after. Mine are arriving tomorrow.
And for those of us in smog-restricted states, having CARB certification is a big deal. I've had plenty of modded cars and it's always a headache if you get a smog tech that knows what to look for and you have non-CARB legal mods.
Spdklzu thanks for the back up. It is a big deal to have that CARB cert. More and more stated are adopting CA emission standards and it is actually Federal law that states the cats must not be modified.

+1
Spdklzu,
Are you doing the install yourself? If you are having a shop do it who is doing it? Maybe they want to do a second install for me. I am in Mtn. View and would love to see the headers up close before I order.

Hey man, I'm planning on doing the install myself. I'm not sure what day I'm going to do the install, but I'll try to snap lots of pics of the installation process.

Hey... I'm also in the Bay Area and the only thing stopping me is the install... I simply don't have the space and/or time to do it.... I was thinking about calling Goodies Speed Shop in SJ for a quote.... maybe we can put together something.... as I said before my dealership out of the question... It took them a day and a half to install a simple leveling kit... service mgr. and I quote said "our tech's here today are uncapable".... nuff said...

I know a guy who owns a shop in Mtn. View that could do it. Have not asked him about cost. He has done a lot of work on my brother's Falcon restoration project, including tri-y headers. I also have a couple of Lexus tech buddies that could do it as a side job. They would have to do it at home, not at the shop. I was thinking of going that way.

Just went to the performance shop today where they installed my DT headers. I haven't been able to pick up the truck yet as there was a mix up with my Zoomers exhaust, so waiting on hte proper fitment of that to come in. The shop that installed the headers is Automotive Performance in Kokomo, IN. The tech said this was one of the best set of built headers he has installed. He said he has installed quite a few and was very impressed with the welds and construction quality of the headers. I have no performance information as I haven't even driven the truck yet...But wanted to give props out to Nick and Doug Thorley Headers for the quality product.
Good to see a sponser like DT on the board. You guys should be glad to have a header expert who will to talk with you. No reason to be a dick if you don't agree with DT's product or price. Nick, I have a 3.4 V6 so you probably can't do much for me. However, I like reading yer posts....
Triple,
We actually have a VERY POPULAR 3.4l set. PM me for more details or you can go to Customtacos.com and there is numerous threads on them there. And again thanks for the support guys.
Well, UPS never showed up (typical) but I was reading through the service manual instructions and had a few questions for those that have done the installs already or Nick.
* Can you keep the stock header heat insulator?
* Also, the Toyota instructions say to remove the radiator fan/shroud and alternator! Did any of you do that?
This will be the first time I am getting up close & personal with this vehicle so I don't really know my way around in there yet.
You will not be able to use the original heat sheilds. You will have to jack up the engine and I recomend removing the starter heat sheild for the install. You can reinstall it after you tighten that hard to get at bolt on the pasenger side top middle nut.Like I pointed out in an earlier post try to use two different brand 12mm box end wrenches. You will have to turn the bolt alittle with one, but it wont be able to get another bite so change to the other wrench and keep alternating back and forth until its tight. I personnally thought the install was easier than the JBA's that I installed on my 2000 Tundra. With that said for those of you on the fence these headers ROCK! I have 305/55/20 on and after I installed the duals I lost a lot of low end torque. With the DT I got all the torque back and then some this truck now pulls from bottom all the way through. I also have the TRD dual and the CAI. The install took just about 3.5 hours if I think of any other tip or if you have question let me know I will try to help.

Thanks XLR8! I appreciate the quick response. It sounds like you didn't have to remove the fan/alternator/starter/belts?
Sounds like we are going to have the exact same setup: DT Headers, TRD CAI/Exhaust
