Default TRD or Volant Intake

I'm trying to do a search on these two intakes and for some reason I can't find any of the old posts so I'm sorry I'm bringing this up again. I'm ready to buy an intake and I'm trying to decided between the TRD and the Volant. What are all of your opinions on the two? If you have any pics with them installed can you post them please. Also what are the best prices you've found between the two?

don't waste your money! I was the same way looking for more power but really just wait until the tuner comes out and enjoy the furry.

its not a wate of money. I do agree they are over priced but they do help. Especially when you combone them with an exhaust and then add the tuner

Although the TRD is a lot of money thats what I went with. The fit and finish was top notch, there is no gap in the fender with the air accelerator, it has a gauge that tells you when you need to clean the filter, and it's a Toyota part. You can def feel a seat of the pants difference with it.

I agree. Installed mine Christmas day. I love the sound and the fit and finish is great.

I'm sure they are both good products. I went with the Volant and have been pleased with it. It's not too loud but you can hear it when you get on it. I liked the fact that it doesn't have to be cleaned and re-oiled. I've had K&N filters over the years and after cleaning them, I never was exactly sure how much oil to use. The volant is a dry set up. It seems to filter just fine. The last time I had my oil changed at 3K miles, the mechanic said the oil wasn't very dirty so I guess that's somewhat of an indicator that the air filter is filtering good. I purchased mine from autoanything.com. Good price and good service. I have pictures of the Volant, just click on my camera to view them.

When is someone going to post dyno numbers comparing just a high flow filter element in the stock CAI box vs an aftermarket CAI box? I'm thinking 90% + of any gains will come from the $50 high flow element.

Question for the TRD intake guys. Does it come with a layout or some kind of stencil for cutting the engine cover?

Yes it does. check my photos for installed pics. I havent gotten around to doing the finish work on the cut . Some have used spacers to lift the intake cover rather than cutting.
I would buy it again if I had to do it over again. Top quality, looks and sounds good. Particulary with an exhaust system.

Thanks a lot, yeah I am definitely going with the TRD set up as soon as my tax check comes back to me, as well as my new exhaust.

Sparks Toyota had the best price at the time I bought mine. I have seen em on ebay cheaper since then, but Sparks reputation is good and they stand behind there stuff + there a sponser for TS
Will I get a discount for the plug? ;-)

TRD rules! My CAI and dual exhaust sound awesome. The warranty is good for the duration of the Toyota factory warranty since the dealer installed them.

I agree about the service from Sparks Toyota. They will make it right no matter what. Worth the few extra $$ to me. I have been told the TRD CAI is a rebadged AFE. I like the red tube and the time to clean indicator.

Just waiting for a few extra bucks to buy the DT headers and the TRD supercharger when it comes out.
