Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Installed Volant intake-mpg's are lower", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have the TRD CAI and dual exhaust. I did not reset the computer and my mpg's are the same. 17.2 on all the same roads. I have done a couple of 100 mile trips since the install. It "feels" crisper and more responsive. The dual exhaust sounds exactly like I had hoped. Is it worth the $$? Probably not.
The wife does not understand my interest in upgrades but allows me the indulgence of adding parts to a perfectly good truck. Soooo next on the agenda is DT headers. SCHWEET!
Neither does my fiance, but, since i bought her a new 08 Camry SE, she doesn't care what I get. That's the only reason i'm getting leather seats installed tomorrow. Now I need to install my exhaust, headers, rims and nav/stereo system before that wears off

Wow you bought a car for someone you're not married to yet.
I'm engaged myself but I still keep the purchases for her minimal. But then again I don't have to buy her things just because I want to buy myself something.

WOW! You really made it sound like I have no balls! There's more to the story. We've been together 6 years now and we'll be married in May. Prior to the new Camry, she drove an 88 Camry with well over 200,000 miles. While the engine ran strong as ever, many other components started failing and it became a money pit. She was also hit by an uninsured driver who had no assets except his pos hooptie. I rebuilt the front clip myself with junkyard parts and painted it. Whenever something failed, guess who had to fix it? It also had some suspension issues, limited safety features (no airbags or stability control, etc.) and I wanted her in something safer and more reliable for my peace of mind, so I co-signed for her and have made the first few payments. She recently finished grad school, so she'll take over payments very soon.
You sound like your going into your marriage with one foot in and one foot out. If you're confident enough in your relationship to marry her, why wouldn't you do the same?

I completely agree with you. I too bought my wife a car while we were still dating. Strangely enough she returned the favor by purchasing me a "toy" car. Till then, I had only toyed with my daily drivers. So the moral of the story is... it's not stupid. It's genius!
I always get a bit confused by the big debate over fuel consumption. If you know how far you traveled/tank and how much fuel you purchase on each fill and have been driving for more than 5 tanks than the "where the pump clicks" is a tiny fraction of a percent of error. I use the truck for work (ie get paid for its miles) and as a result I reset the trip on every fill and log each fill volume. When filling up I reset the fuel average and i stopped comparing the two by hand because the system was so close I couldn't care less if I got 19.6 according to the computer or 19.56 according to my numbers. The point of the story is, if you have a stock set of tires, and reset the counter per tank, it is (in my case anyhow) actually correct.....

I found that after both mods... Intake & Exhaust, my actual mileage decreased for a time. I say Actual because it was reflected in both places, the truck's computer and my manual calculations. The good news is that in both occasions the decrease was fairly short lived. I am now getting better overall MPG than stock. *commentary 1, some of that improvement could be the result of my right foot response... and/ or, getting close to 5k miles.
**commentary 2, you don't really need to defend your relationship with the future wife. Buying her stuff will always be a good idea!!! I did it before marriage & for the past 33 years. LOL

Correctamundo! Now that she can't complain about her car and LOVES her new car, she's much more happy, and when she's happy, I'm happy. Young grasshopper has much to learn.
I'll be pairing the intake with an exhaust soon. I need some bark to go with my bite. Maybe that will improve the efficiency and improve mileage. I'm not too worried about losing mpg's slightly, as long as I don't drop below 12.5. Then I may have to go back to stock.

Never mind, I just ordered the Volant from autoanything for $345 and free shipping. It was the best price I could find, can't wait to get her installed.
