Many people believe it to be this way,but sadly many learn different.Mod stacking generally causes some to cancel out one or more in a sequence such as found when modding air box to tail pipes.
Advertised Hp Gains (Example only)
Air box = 8 hp
Ported TB = 4 hp
TB Spacer = 5 hp (yup suckers are still buying these)
LT Headers = 20 hp
Muffler(s) = 10 hp
Tuning = 10 hp
Total = 57 Hp
Dyno Pull after mods shows 21 rwhp gained
Air box/CAI (Hot Topic)
Dyno shows gain of 5-7 hp gain over stock(example only)
Roll it off the drums and hit the streets 7Hp heavier.
Start pushing the front tires and add abit of crosswinds or head wind,maybe top off your fuel add a passenger or two.Everything changes once you roll off the drums.
Your doing burn outs and speed runs like no tomorrow thinking you have the world by the short hairs,jamming out to all that new noise under your hood
If and when(if ever) the voice of reason taps your shoulder better listen because its the truth.
You spent $350+ for less then 2 usable rwhp and more induction noise.Cool looking plastic bucket aint it ?
Now attempt to justify your purchase........
Air box and Muffler 18 hp add the above resistance and you may have 4-5 usable rwhp and more noise.
WOW Man that less then $20 per HP .......

Cant gain a tenth on an ET,cant gain any MPG . . .

<~ Embarrassment
FWIW I Free modded an 01 LS1 then went with a lid PTB,JBA LT's and GMMG Exhaust,LS1 Edit tweaked at the track when running for ET.I base dyno'd with 2700 miles 331 RWHP after acouple grand in mods I was very surprised to see 28 rwhp gain to 361 hp.
